About this project
HELLO! Thanks for stopping by!
So this section will tell you three things:
- It will give you a synopsis of the book - this is also available on my website.
- What I am going to spend the raised funds on.
- My timeline for getting all of this done
So, what's my book about? Here's the synopsis:
In 2003 in post-Apartheid South Africa, 16-year old Riaan Fourie comes home early to find his mother and her lover brutally slain in his family home in the suburbs by a gang of black youths. With only a bloody inscription as evidence, Riaan knows that this is the beginning of a race war that was first predicted by the prophet Charles Manson, over thirty years earlier. Riaan believes that this is the beginning of what would unfold as racially motivated violence against whites.
His first signal came almost ten years later when he laid eyes on a mysterious woman, Claire Campbell. He couldn’t explain why he had to bring her into the family, but he knew that she was central to the success of his plan for victory over the rising Helter Skelter.
Over the next few years, Riaan stalks the young woman trying to infiltrate her life, but he can’t get to her. She is dismissive and won’t give him the time of day, so he gains control over one of her friends, Kasia - a young blonde Polish woman who has a problem with drugs and who will tell him all he needs to know about Riaan. With Kasia’s help, Riaan lures Claire to a cocktail party where he drugs her and holds her captive.
After a week, Riaan can’t get through to her – he can’t convince her to willingly join the family. He starts to worry that her husband will get concerned and he lures the doomed Neil Sinclair to his home where he murders him in an act of desperation. He realises that he needs to flee to the countryside where he can continue to groom Claire and escapes to the remote Eastern Cape - the family pineapple plantation. Riaan drugs her and tries to manipulate her into believing his prophecy. He falls short of his mentor, because he can’t convince her that the prophecy is true. He struggles to understand why he doesn’t possess the power of persuasion like his idol, Charles Manson. He is determined to try harder believing there are tactics he hasn’t tried, he grows increasing frustrated and deluded.
He lures young black men to her to prove to her that racial violence is inevitable and that ‘the black man’ will revert back to basic instincts - ultimately only causing destruction. Claire will not believe it even after Riaan and other young men sexually abuse her.
Meanwhile, back in Cape Town, Claire’s long-time friend, Advocate Jessica Tait has given up on the South African police to solve the case of her missing friend. She takes matters into her own hands and convinces a confidant of Riaan to let her into Riaan's house, where they discover the dead body of Neil Sinclair. Jessica is convinced that Riaan has Claire and uses her resources in the justice system to discover that he owns the pineapple plantation. She goes to the remote farm where she gets into a struggle with Riaan and his deputy, Ryker. Jessica meets her demise at the end of a bayonette and after witnessing the brutal murder of her best friend, Claire is able to escape and hitchhikes down to the coast at Jeffrey’s Bay where she knows she is not safe.
Claire tries to get the protection of the police, but they do not take action immediately. Riaan mysteriously tracks Claire to where she is hiding on board a boat in the harbour, and after seeing him climb on board, she knows she has to give herself up. As they both step off the boat, Riaan lights the boat on fire and they depart the bay with a string of explosions as a backdrop.
As they are walking back towards the car, Claire sees two policeman standing nearby. Riaan points a gun at her, threatening to shoot her if she runs. After weeks of abuse, Claire runs towards them with Riaan firing the weapon after her. A shootout between himself and the police occurs with Riaan managing to get into a stolen car and speeding off.
The South African Police Service are unprepared for this manhunt and while they attempt to mobilise, Riaan has driven to Johannesburg and boarded a plane destined for Lagos. He knows he has to get to Claire to enact his revenge. She has single-handedly guaranteed that the survival of the white race is now impossible.
The story is one of mental illness, murder, drugs and the delusion continued by the legacy of Apartheid commenting on the racial order that has unintentionally been created in South Africa – manifested by as one man’s belief that he is the true leader of white survival and that Charles Manson was just a pawn in a grander universal scheme of revenge and racial dominance, and one woman’s fear that the justice system will not protect her.
The funds will be used to self-publish my book.
I have just about finished a first draft of the manuscript and now it needs to be edited, edited, edited. I have found a really fantastic local South African editor, who is a published author in her own right.
If I raise £7000 - this will pay for first line editing (£1200), second and third line editing (£1000), cover art and design (£500) and print of 500 paperback versions of the book (£2000). I will also promote the book through paid advertising.
If I raise £10000, I will also get a PR agency - one in England and one in South Africa.
October 2015: EDITING
November 9, 2015: Pre-sale on Amazon and all my awesome backers will be shipped their goodies.
December 7, 2015: LAUNCH OF THE FAMILY!
Risks and challenges
The first draft of this work is just about finished. It now needs to go through editing, which I expect to be the world's biggest ballache. Not least of which because I've never written a full novel before.
Once it goes through a first line, 'structural' edit, it will need to be proofed and edited at least twice more.
Then the cover art is added with some awesome words of wisdom about life and the world. Then it is ready for you, my awesome backers to read and relish. Hopefully encourage all of your friends to buy and give me feedback on.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
