A children's book that deals with the insecurities of animals and ourselves.

I wrote this book for adults and children and I hope they can enjoy it together. Originally written for my friend, it was always my intent for the book to be one that adults would actually enjoy reading to children. The book has seen three versions in it's lifetime; a hand drawn book, a letter press book, and finally the current versions. I wanted this book to make people smile when they read it. Usually what gets me out of a slump is a good laugh (with a touch of education and cut out animals). With the help I plan on getting my book published and printed. A few months ago I was signed to a publishing agent who I thought could help. Unfortunately the person who signed me left the company and my book was then passed to another agent. My hopes were somewhat dashed at that moment as I knew that the new agent didn't have the same passion for the book as the original one. I decided to take fate into my own hands at that point and thought self publishing would be the best option. The money raised will go to materials for the illustrations, printing the book in both paperback and hardcover, and getting the book out to people.
The whole point of this for me is getting the book into as many hands as possible. I truly believe in the book, it's humor, it's relate-ability, and it's function as children's book / educational book. The main reward/incentive is the book itself, as to me that is what matters. If I am fortunate enough to get the book published, I will still be selling the hardback for around $35, which is only $5 less than the "rewards" price because printing and shipping are very expensive. The thing is that with the extra $5 you donate you will also be getting hand made prints along with the book, something that I have been selling on the side for the past couple of years. So i'm trying to make it as cost friendly to you to donate as I can because I really want this book to reach a wide audience.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I will be working hard to illustrate the book and finish it up. I teach and printmake for a living which means I'm either talking about art or working on it. Working on these illustrations are part of my life at the moment, and will continue to be until they are done. There are always risks and challenges in every endeavor and I guess mine would be time. Time to work on the illustrations, time to get the book printed, time to get all the incentives made. Working and living in NYC is always a struggle with time. Things are happening at such a fast pace and making a living can take up a good chunk, and at times, all of my time. Creating the book itself, scanning, editing, all these things seem simple on the surface but in reality often have road blocks that could slow the project. I feel confident in the task at hand, but challenges do exist. My plan is to work and finish everything by the end of the kickstarter deadline so that it can be sent to the printers soon after. All the incentives will also be hand made by me, including printing of posters, t-shirts, and original art. I have been printmaking for the last 8 years and received both my BFA and MFA in visual arts. That being said, these things also take time and I would want to make sure that everyone gets the best incentives I can make. Any possible delays that occur would be in the book printing process, something which I truly hope does not happen. I would hope to get everything sent out before the holidays, and hopefully I will have time on my side.
