Hi, folks! Thanks for checking us out here on Kickstarter. LIBERATOR is a 20-minute short film/presentation pilot. We completed principal photography in June. LIBERATOR is about a disgraced, washed-up, ex superhero whose secret black ops past catches up with him -- just as he's trying to put his life back together.

We have assembled a mighty, mighty cast of genre luminaries:

LOU FERRIGNO as Al Migliocetti/The Liberator

PETA WILSON ("La Femme Nikita") as Marla Criswell

MICHAEL DORN ("Star Trek: the Next Generation") as General Augustus Criswell

DON "THE DRAGON" WILSON as Sidewinder

and EDWARD ASNER as President Whitlock.

Wow. Rounding out the cast we have the gorgeous Tara Cardinal as the new government superhero recruit "Gaia" and the incandescent Jessica Jade Andres as the Liberator's estranged teen daughter. And we must also mention the amazing Mr. Darren Auck, former Marvel Comics Art Director, who is creating our prologue sequence.

The truly unique thing about Liberator is that, unlike other superhero flicks out there, it's based very much in the politics of now. This is a real person in the real world. He's a superhero, yes, but he's also a man and a father, dealing with the things that affect us all as humans. It's this personal, emotional element that really sets this character, and this project, apart.

Our goal is to use this short to launch a new franchise, in whatever form that takes -- TV series, feature, web series, you name it. Since every one of our cast has starred in hit TV shows and movies, we feel pretty psyched, and we hope you are, too! As comics and sci-fi fans, we assembled the cast that WE would want to see in a movie. Lou Ferrigno back in action as a superhero one more time? Heck yeah!

We used every last dime we raised to make the movie -- in the can, sweet! But we have zero in the till for post (uh-oh.) Now we need $18K to finish this film at the high level of professionalism it demands and to add the special effects. We have a great team of industry pros working on this thing at pennies on the dollar because they love this project and want to see it happen. We hope you feel the same way!

Please visit liberatormovie.com or https://www.facebook.com/liberatormovie for behind the scenes footage, production diaries, art and more. Plus check out the cool pix, footage and interviews (with more to come, for donors only!) right here on our Kickstarter updates page!

Please join us in the creation of the hero the world needs right now. Thank you!

** Please note: the $25 reward is actually a DVD copy, not a download, of the finished film. Kickstarter will not let us change this because backers have already selected this. The $15 reward is the digital download. Thanks! **

FAQ

  • We sure hope so! The script was written by Jim Cirile and Aaron Pope, two multi-produced screenwriters repped by New Wave Entertainment. Jim is the owner of http://www.coverageink.com, a top-rated* independent screenplay analysis & development company. We used our team of readers to help develop the project over a period of a year. We must be doing something right to land a cast like this on our budget.

  • This is true, and that is exactly why it was so important that we get an actual superhero--Lou Ferrigno--to play the Liberator. It's also why we surrounded him with genre luminaries, all of whom have starred in successful movies and TV shows.

  • LIBERATOR takes place in our current world, right now. No Metropolis or Gotham City, no magic, no Norse deities, no aliens. Our heroes utilize both existing and rumored technology. The film is gritty and realistic and does not shy away from exploring controversial political themes either. But the tone is not as dark as "Watchmen."

  • We're hoping late fall. Then we will investigate festival premieres while also slipping it to our industry contacts.
