What's the Story?
Ex-napped is a female driven comedic short film about a woman who gets carried away obsessing over her ex boyfriend, and accidentally kidnaps his new girlfriend.
Who are the characters in this story?
Alex is the endearing protagonist of our story. Alex's need to get rid of the question marks left behind by her ex boyfriend, Chad, compel her to get a closer look at his new girlfriend, leading to Alex unintentionally kidnapping her. Alex has to figure out how to get the closure she needs and return the girlfriend while avoiding the dreaded consequences.
Melina is Alex's sassy best friend. Melina's only intention was to comfort Alex but she had no idea what she was getting herself into.
Janie is Chad's new firecracker of a girlfriend. She is feisty and rambunctious, while sexy and charming all at once. It is no wonder Alex feels intimidated.
Chad is Alex's ex boyfriend. While he is the antagonist of our story, Chad is not an all around bad guy. He is just the bumbling ex who has a tough time articulating his feelings.
What makes this story different from others like it?
This is not just a "girl pining over a guy" story. Ex-Napped brings in three different perspectives from three different women into a unique, yet funny, set of circumstances and allows the comedy to thrive. It is a story about strength from a fearless ability to allow insecurities to show, something often not depicted in current mainstream media.
Why Does It Matter?
This short film gives women more outlets, in front of and behind the camera, to showcase their talents. The three main characters are dynamic females that spend the majority of the film playing off of each other. The different types of humor each one brings is a great display of the variety of comedic roles that can be out there for women, if we help create them.
It is also important to not rely on "guy bashing" as the main form of humor, or point, of a female driven comedy. The male lead is an equally developed three dimensional character.
