Want a cocktail?!Help us raise money to hire a lobbyist to change MN state law. Current Minnesota law says that we cannot have a Brewer's Taproom and a Distiller's Cocktail room under the same ownership and same location. MN Statute 340A.22 Subd. 2(e). "No single entity may hold both a cocktail room and taproom license, and a cocktail room and taproom may not be co-located."
Bent Brewstillery is a brewery and distillery in Roseville, MN and the 1st single-entity brewery/distillery to operate in Minnesota. With being the 1st comes many challenges including changing antiquated laws and working with a powerul liquor lobby that fights to keep these laws unchanged.
This liquor control group fails to realize that changing laws has led to great expansion of our collective industry. The cocktail rooms fuel the demand for the products in bars, restaurants, and liquor stores. The customer tries it at the cocktail room then seeks it out at their favorite retailer. We noticed this phenomenon first hand with our beer. Once our taproom opened, demand for our beer grew exponentially.
All Minnesota micro distilleries are allowed to setup a Cocktail Room to serve their hand-made spirit products, why not Bent Brewstillery too? Your generous donation will help fund our endeavors to change these laws and give you the right to enjoy a delicious Bent Brewstillery cocktail along with your delicious Bent Brewstillery beer. Join our fight to create The Brewstillery Tap-Tail Room Law for us and all other brewstilleries to come later.
Besides backing our endeavor with a generous gift, if you live in Minnesota, please also consider writing to your state representative. Click here (http://tinyurl.com/3wxh79t) and type in your zip code to find your state rep. Click to that rep's page to find their contact info. Phone calls are great; letters are great.
The easiest way is to click on the email link and write them an email. Write from the heart, in your own words. Tell your representative you would like to enjoy a locally-crafted cocktail, made rom locally-crafted spirits at your locally-crafted Brewstillery source - just like the micro-breweries, wineries, and micro-distilleries offer. Feel free to copy and paste any text you find here.
And a special "Thanks" to our pals at HomeBrewedStudios.bandcamp.com for the awesome video!
Note that the tokens in the rewards are usable on any menu item. Thank your for your support! And see you at the Tap-Tail Room!
Risks and challenges
There are no guarantees in life and I’ve been told by lobbyists that there is no guarantee that our efforts to change this law will be successful. We have spoken with state legislators and with our opposition that wants things to remain unchanged. Both have said that it’s not impossible, it would just need boundaries. Our lobbyist will spend the necessary time at the state capital to discuss the limitations and generate required legislative support. The winds of change are blowing and we think our chances are great!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
