About this project
A coming of age story set in the mid 70's of a young teenager the day he received his drivers license. Out with his best friends on a joy ride, they pull a harmless prank that backfires and the boys get caught. Stephen's parents tell him he must apologize to the victims for this unthinkable act. The apology becomes a fiasco when one of the teenagers bursts out laughing which sends the enraged victim racing to the family estate for an apology. Unfortunately for the victim, he interrupts their cocktail hour where the dysfunction of this family is soon revealed.
Risks and challenges
The challenges we faced we could actually write book about, from finding a secluded street that looked "1976" the date of our period piece film to shoot the centerpiece scene and to then have that street flooded with modern cars for a funeral, which now have to be removed in post production. Another problem being some of the lead actors shaving their 70's hair after principal photography wrapped before re-shoots. Trying to stay calm and keep the family of 5 together while we shot this and being petrified as it was 2008 the start of the financial spiral, and had just lost my job and was pulling all of the money out of the 401 K to have the 1200 that it cost to pay the crew and 70's car rental each day, those were just a few of the challenges. How I was qualified to overcome it was my sincere drive to make a comedy, it had to be a burning desire, and a drive that is infused with patience as I do character animation for a living, and that has taught me patience and understanding, because there were some dark days, weeks and months, and we have come all this way to the film being shot edited and sound mixing all done and in the can! All that is required now are color correction, car removal and music rights. We feel at this stage there is nothing we cannot overcome to make it to the finish line and seeing this film on the festival circuit next summer and beyond.
After this project is successfully funded we have all of the people in place to do the work to finish the film, as we are all visual effects artists, so this is what we know better then anyone. This will take some time, but this is what we do, one frame at a time and incredibly labor intensive, but we know this and have the patience and above all the sincere interest in making it look like a period piece from 1976 so that part is fun for us. A setback that could arise is 70's music festival rights, but since doing the kickstarter campaign we have already found the answer, because in the film there are several 70's signature hits, diary entries if you will in the film for mood and setting. And what we have just learned from submitting to you was that we wrote our own 70's music for our kick starter, so if the record publishing companies will not allow "Festival rights only" for those songs, well, that would be a setback, but we have just worked with a 70's band who did the music for this campaign, so we are all set with a great 70's band should any setbacks like that arise.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
