About Astropunk (click here to visit our Facebook page!)
Astropunk is a comic that has been over two years in the making, a labor of love to be sure. It is something we’ve poured countless hours and dollars into, both our own and from the generous backers of our first Kickstarter.
We couldn’t have gotten as far as we have without people supporting us and our vision every step of the way. So, we wanted to thank all of you, backers, potential backers, casual observers, and even the people who don’t stick around or choose to help us, each of you has added something of value to our work and for that we thank you.
Astropunk #1 introduced us to Marshal Leslie Dent and the world of Astropunk on a micro level. We watched as she moved through the streets of Nova Roma, and the Reservation hunting a woman on the run from an importunate vice president of Vulcan Mining Corp.
Trying to track her to her last known whereabouts, Dent has a dangerously close encounter with a cloaked figure also on the look out for the same missing woman. Fortunately for Marshal Dent, their paths have yet to cross.
The book wraps up with a punch as billionaire philanthropist, and genius, Adam Ogden and his close friend and associate Ariel Jordan discovering that their invention to bring sustainable water to the less fortunate people of Mars is one step closer to completion.
Though this is not all that transpires inside the pages of Astropunk: Murder on Mars #1, so if you have yet to read it, we've got a Reward Tier for that, and you can take a look at our initial Kickstarter by clicking the linked image below.
With that covered, it's time to move onto...
Astropunk Issue #2!
First, let's take a second to soak in the beauty that is Steve Thomas' newest cover. It's a thing of beauty, isn't it?
The book follows Leslie Dent as she navigates her way through a twisting cesspool of lies, greed, and murder. It is our ode, of sorts, or homage, to the great pulp writers and stories of the 50’s, and the classic noir films they would inspire.
But, underneath the trappings of style, there is some fairly dark commentary on the nature of our own world, and the direction we see it heading. Astropunk is distinctly dystopian. We have made no bones about clearly stating that from the outset. Vulcan Mining Corp. controls nearly every aspect of life on Mars.
Stavros Konstantinious, the Vice President of Human Resources for Vulcan, in Nova Roma (The Vulcan city on Mars), is a man not to be trifled with. When Vulcan says “Human Resources” they aren’t just talking about who you file your workplace harassment claims with, they mean Humanity as a Resource. They manage housing, food, healthcare, vices, work related duties, and even water. It is this last part that has sparked the confluence of events that start Leslie Dent on her path.
Thank you for taking the time to read this (hopefully you have), below you will find some bios for the team who’ve worked on this project, and their duties, you will also find some preview pages and other various artwork.
Stretch Goal Unlocks
Oathbound #1 has been UNLOCKED and is now free to ALL backers! Oathbound is the story of a man coming to terms with his daughter growing up. Cole Jamison and his daughter Viola find themselves wrapped up in the past and fighting for their future, in a sweeping western epic that draws inspiration from Tolkien-esque fantasy.
Escape From Jesus Island #1 has been UNLOCKED and is now free to ALL backers!
Have you ever wondered what might happen if we could actually clone Jesus Christ? Well, Shawn French has been asking himself that question for 20 years, and he and Mortimer Glum might just have the answers. In this vibrant, and beautiful, homage to splatter films, it's unclear who the protagonist is. What is clear, however, is that there are truly a million ways to die.
$6000 LOCKED! Judas Breed - Kenneth Brown has crafted a tale that is both familiar and altogether knew, in this horrific, sci-fi showdown between an inquisitive team of research scientists, and an unknown life-form they uncover while exploring an alien planet. Ryan Best and HdE flesh out the art team, in easily the best sci-fi horror title on the indie scene.
It's a secret. Unlock Judas Breed and this Stretch Goal will be made public!
$7000 LOCKED!Like the $6500 Unlock, it's a secret. Unlock the $6500 Stretch Goal and this will be made public!

Issue #1 Revisited
To remind you of the story style and tone, we created an Issue #1 'Revisit.' Enjoy.
Issue #2 Preview
Here are the first 5 pages of issue #2.
Robert Farinholt (Co-Creator/Co-Writer): Rob Farinholt is a firefighter, writer, and father of two. He enjoys comic books, astronomy, and dihydrogen monoxide.
Kenneth Centers (Co-Creator/Co-Writer): Lives in Southeastern Virginia with his wife and daughter; he loves the comics medium for the stories they can tell. Ken has been everything from a poker dealer and gambler, to a classically trained chef, and now he writes comics. His history with Robert goes back 20+ years, unfortunately for Rob.
Paul Gori (Illustrator): Paul resides in Quartz Hill California, where he enjoys a quiet life with his three young boys, wife, and dog, Zoey. He is currently illustrator on a number of projects, aside from Astropunk, namely OathBound and Psycho Path. He is also working on his creator owned title Miami Bitchin', which he wrote and illustrated alongside Astropunk's very own Shawn M Greenleaf.
Hector Rubilar (Colorist): With 10 years of professional experience, and dozens of credits to his name, Hector still manages to teach art and Adobe Photoshop at the Bradesco Foundation (a non-profit, vocational training center) in Sao Paulo, Brasil.
Shawn M. Greenleaf (Editor/Letter/Comics Whisperer): Quickly becoming known as ‘The Leditor,’ Shawn is the Letterer & Editor for Astropunk. His resume also includes Lettering & Editing for the following series: the apocalyptic horror series, Escape from Jesus Island, the Fantasy/Western, Oathbound, the grindhouse series, The Infernal Pact/Whore of Babylon, and the all-ages ghost hunter story, Full Moon Fredo. To be quite honest, that’s just a few of the projects he is or has worked on. He’s a proverbial ‘glutton for creative punishment’ and just can’t say ‘No’ when a new, exciting project comes his way.
Steve Thomas (Cover Art): Before becoming a freelance illustrator/graphic artist, Steve worked for newspapers creating graphics and illustrations for every section of the paper. His love for vintage poster, propaganda and product art from the early 20th century and an interest in retro-futuristic art from the mid-20th has shaped his style of artwork to what it is today.
Paula Goulart (Flatter): Professional assistant comic colorist and flatter from Sao Paulo, Brasil. Works for independent comic creators, artists, and publishers. Attended the Brazilian Academy of Art - ABRA in 1996-1998, graduated an Associate of Arts Degree in Arts, Drawing, and Comics. Has worked as Graphic Designer for several years and received 2 awards in 2006 as Pattern Designer Revelation and Pattern Designer Talent at FENATEC (Textile and Garment International Fair) and FENIT 2006 (Textile Industry International Fair) in Sao Paulo, Brasil.
Ramon Hitzeroth (Inking Assistant): A 26-year-old man-boy all the way from South Africa (And no, there's no lions walking freely on the roads). During the day, I consider myself a professional Web Developer, and during the night I get in touch with my creative side and draw whatever my brain can come up with. For Astropunk, I work together with Paul Gori to make sure the pages are clean and ready for the Flatterer and Colourist.
Risks and challenges
With any art project there is always a certain amount of risk. But we’ve been here before, and have a fairly good system in place. Everyone working on the book has been nothing but professional in completing their work, both in a timely fashion and to the highest standards. If I were being flippant, I’d say the only risk would be the weather. But, the truth is, anything can happen, though we will take all necessary steps to ensure our finished product is on time.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
