We love small things that look real. If you are like us and the idea of a miniature world is close to your heart, it is for you that we created Archiminima Structura.
Archiminima Structura is an architectural construction set of small building blocks that look and feel like stone. The pieces are held together by their own weight. The small studs on the blocks just prevent them from sliding. But if you want to move a structure as one piece you can use starch glue to hold it together. The glue can be later removed just by using water.
All castles have realistic details - merlons, machicolations, arches with keystones. Even medieval toilets have been recreated (they look like balconies but don't be mislead)! Some towers have housings for chain bridges.
All Archiminima Structura building blocks are white and take paint very well, so you can easily change their colour.
Archiminima Structura is compatible by scale with HO (1:87) model railways and 15 mm wargaming terrain - so in creating your own small world on your desk you can use the entire universe of numerous manufactured landscape items and figures.
Two types of structure can be built: complete stand-alone buildings – we call them basic sets - and extension modules using which you can design larger structures, such as walls surrounding your castle. We are planning to sell each block on our website as a separate product so that anyone could design their own castles from scratch.
Below is an example of what you can build using extension modules:
Archiminima Structura has one important feature: It allows you to build octagonal and round towers.
The production of Archiminima Structura involves three stages. All the blocks are made by hand in our workshop in Slovenia.
After a design is put on paper, aluminium master blocks are made on a small milling machine and a lathe.
When aluminium master blocks are ready, rubber moulds are produced from liquid rubber available at hobby stores.
When moulds are ready, liquid material is cast into them to form building blocks. We use Keramin-S - a safe casting material for hobby use.
A bit of history
This is what the first brick looked like back in 2012:
One of multiple experiments with pigments:
We begin our Kickstarter campaign to start production of Archiminima Structura. We can produce 5 basic sets for our backers beginning today because we have already made the moulds. All we need for these 5 sets is to order casting material and packaging. The other 19 basic sets and 16 extension modules are waiting for your choice of the next ones to be produced. They are also waiting for their moulds. We have a complete set of master blocks for all 40 sets designed so far.
A PDF poster with vector graphics of all 40 Archiminima basic and extension sets designed so far. Printable in any format, A1 by default:
We will attach assembling instructions to each set of Archiminima Structura. You can also download all the manuals from our website www.archiminima.com.
Risks and challenges
We have been perfecting our mould-making and casting techniques for a year by now. Our work process is now smooth and stable. If there is large demand from Kickstarter, we will need to hire some help, but this is also not a problem since we have a number of pretty straightforward tasks that anyone can do. So there are no specific risks associated with our production, only the ones usual for any Kickstarter campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
