Throne of Kings: The Art of War
Welcome! We are very excited to introduce the Throne of Kings chess set! Thanks for taking a look at our project!
Throne of Kings: The Art of War is an epic chess set that consists of pieces inspired by popular medieval fantasy and gaming genres. Like many young lads, we grew up on stories of long, long ago; tales of daring-do and honor, family name and knights fighting epic battles.
Throne of Kings: The Art of War is a reflection of those stories.
THE ART OF WAR
We are offering a stunning chess set in two different playing sizes. The chess set will be available in a travel edition and a standard edition. Grab the travel set and head off to your favorite coffee shop, library, or watering hole. Take the battle with you for a "friendly game" with either friend or foe. With the standard set, gather around the coffee table or in the dining room to challenge your family and friends to an epic battle.
Each complete set includes a wooden chess board and storage box. The chess boards and storage boxes are hand constructed using walnut and birdseye maple, an oil rub captures the rich color and texture of the wood and then they are sealed for protection. The standard board is 18” square with 2” squares and set upon bronze pedestals. The travel size board is 11” square with 1.25” squares and shares the same design as the standard board.
Each playing piece is cast in white or yellow bronze. By working with local skilled artisans, our chess sets are made here in the United States.
We have worked very hard to ensure that each chess piece carries its own personality. Once you see and hold them, we think you will enjoy each for different reasons.
As beautiful works of art, both chess sets can be proudly displayed in the center of any room, making them a conversation piece for years to come!
DREAM! DESIGN! CREATE!
The creation process begins by digitally sculpting the individual art pieces. We then 3D print the digital sculptures using a high resolution DLP-SLA 3D printer. Using the 3D printed pieces, master molds are created. The pieces are then cast in bronze using the ancient process of lost-wax casting.
Our final product is the result of combining age-old methods with modern technology.
FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS
Building on all the fine work that exists from the past, we are excited to walk into that perfect storm of technology, creativity, chemistry and YOU! You can keep the good karma going!
By partnering with locally owned businesses to produce the complete chess sets, we have secured reliable sources for materials and production. The prototypes of the chess board and playing pieces have been completed and we are now prepared to move forward with full scale production.
Our fundraising goal is $5,000.00. Your funding will be used for the production costs necessary to fulfill all Kickstarter rewards. We expect our first production run to ship in December 2015!
Looking to the future, we are exploring other genres for our work, such as tabletop gaming miniatures and large scale collectibles. Given the chance to fully fund this project, the future looks pretty amazing!
TO LIVE IS TO FLY
We look to create, through our own art designs and/or in collaboration with other artists, many opportunities for serious and elegant fun, deep intellectual jousting, and honorable battle.
We will be looking for your feedback every step of the way and would greatly appreciate your support at this time.
So what do you say? Are you in? If you’d like to help, choose your level and reward!
We also look forward to answering any questions that come up. Questions are what keep us at the top of our game! “Bring it!” we say!
Thanks a lot! And welcome a-board! LET "THE ART OF WAR” BEGIN!
Once original funding goals have been reached, The Stretch Goals will Commence!
Stretch Goal #1 $10,000
Meet the Panther!
When the Throne of Kings - The Art of War reaches the $10,000 funding level, all pledge levels may choose pieces from any of the three families!
Risks and challenges
As with any project, we understand that production delays may occur (material shortages, equipment failure, etc.). We have minimized this risk by teaming with local companies that work with reliable suppliers and that have backup equipment in the event of primary machine failure.
We have invested in the production of our prototype boards, boxes and our master molds. We will be using vulcanized rubber molds and silicone molds for production. With the vulcanized rubber molds, we can produce a larger number of wax pieces at one time. This improves efficiency and this mold material has a longer production life.
Finally, we have set a realistic target delivery date for our first production run taking into account any potential production delays. Production will begin as soon as our funding goal has been met, independent of the campaign end date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
