Hi everyone! My name is Emily, and I am planning to open up a great playspace and snack cafe for young families in the Triangle. If you have young kids, you know how hard it can be to keep them happy and occupied at home, and how difficult it can also be to take them out anywhere. Stay & Play will be the perfect solution to our problem. It will be a beautiful and comfortable space with awesome toys, free wifi and great music. We'll serve good coffee and muffins for adults, plus yummy snacks like crackers and raisins for kids. It will be the perfect easy and fun place to go when you just want to hang out.
Want to know more about what will make Stay & Play so great? First of all, our toys will be fantastic, and our secret weapon in keeping them exciting for our kids will be rotation, so you should see new stuff each time you come.
Parent comfort is also at the forefront of our mission, so our seating will be nice and comfortable and strategically placed so that you can keep your toddler under control while staying somewhat relaxed. The music will be carefully curated, and the aesthetics of the place will be clean, bright, and beautiful for both kids and parents. We'll offer you free wifi of course.
Snacks will be served for both kids and parents. They will be simple, but delicious, and presented in a cute way (secret! you'll have to wait and see when we open up!). The coffee will be great.
Also, we will try to think of everything when it comes to convenience. We all know we are coming with strollers, so we will be sure it is easy to navigate. We will have a nice clean place to change our babies, and a little potty for our toddlers. We will place a very high priority on keeping everything REALLY clean. A socks required policy will help with that. Also, we will do our very best to baby proof our space, and anticipate and avert the destructive power of small ones.
We will offer light programming just to keep things interesting. There will be daily story times and singing and dancing free with admission, plus additional craft and exercise classes for a small fee.
There will be a desk or two tucked away for any homeschooling families that need a place where older kids can work while little ones play.
I get so excited thinking about it!
Have other ideas of what we can do to make it the perfect place to hang out? Let me know!
Just to catch the mood, here is a bit of what I'm thinking of:
Make it happen, cap'n!
If that sounds great to you, get on board! Take a look at the rewards I'm offering to see what you'd like to take advantage of. There is some good stuff available! Unlimited coffee for a year anyone? Remember that the way this project works is that you will not be charged for your pledge unless I reach my entire goal. So if you chip in, you will definitely see the fruits of your commitment.
Once I'm funded, the money will go towards outfitting our space with equipment for the coffee bar, our cool toys, our comfy seating, and the touches that will make the atmosphere in the cafe one you can't get enough of. I can't wait to see our place in brick and mortar! And I can't wait to see you there!
Also need to say that the video music is: Springish by Gillicuddy – www.gillicuddy.net”.
Although we can't sign a lease until we get funded, we are planning to locate somewhere near downtown. We've looked at spaces in Brightleaf, near the Farmers Market and on Main St. If you have a vote on where we should go, please send a message!
As far as pricing goes, We do plan to charge a small admission fee. Probably about $3-5 for one child and $2 for each additional. (This will partly depend on how much space we lease. More space=more room to play and more great atmosphere, but higher overhead.) There will be no charge for adults who come without kids.
The reason we are charging admission is because I want people to feel free to just relax and play as long as they want without being obligated to buy a snack or drink, or feel guilty about staying after they are done. We are equally as much a hang out place as a cafe. We are also planning to charge for craft classes, since there will be supplies involved, and exercise classes, since I will probably pay an instructor to teach them. Storytime, singing, and dance parties are free for everybody with admission. There will be 2 story times, and one singing time and a "4 o'clock dance party" every day.
