Who Else Wants To Discover The Greatest Development In Grating — In 470 Years!
If you’re looking for an easier, simpler and safer way to grate, then you’re on the right page…
Over the course of my life I grudgingly used an ordinary, everyday “box” grater. Every time I used it I just accepted the fact I’d have …a big, clunky grater that was painfully difficult to clean …a whole load of mess to clean up …an additional dirty plate …and a good chance I was going cut my fingers!
While the above things were annoying - the biggest frustration was that most times I needed a grater …I really only wanted a small amount grated over the top of my food (typically cheese for a breadroll or croissant).
I Just Wanted a Simple, Easy Way To Grate With No Mess or Hassle
Because I'm a designer and machinist I decided I would design and make my own “dream grater”. From the start this Grater had to be able to:
- Grate directly onto my food (and not have to use a second plate to catch the gratings)
- Allow me to easily grate a small amount at a time if I need to
- Be Super-easy to clean
- Reduce the risk of cutting my fingers
- Built to be indestructible (I want this to be the last grater I ever own)
- Ultra-hygienic (I don’t want anywhere food or bacteria can get trapped)
Yes, I know, this really was a fairly strict criteria (but after the huge success of the previous two kitchen products I designed — a titanium cheese slicer and a titanium vegetable peeler — I was confident it could be done).
The Grater I’m about to show you is something I designed purely for myself.
After many months of development, and hundreds of hours of testing and tweaking, the greatest revolution in grating (since François Boullier invented the common “box” grater in the 1540s) was ready:
The #1 thing I wanted the Grater to achieve really was the ability to quickly and easily grate over the top of my food ...without having to use a huge, difficult-to-clean "box" grater.
When I'm preparing a sandwich or bread-roll and want to add some cheese - then I just grab the titanium Grater and grate onto the top of my bread-roll:
...or cucumber for a salad:
...or mozzarella for a pizza:
or even chocolate for a cappuccino:
This titanium Grater has taken many months of development to get it to where it is now.
I invested a lot of time and energy into getting the Grater to perform as I dreamed it would ...and the result really is the ultimate handheld Grater.
There are no cheap-and-nasty mass-manufacturing techniques used to make this Grater.
There is no stamping, pressing, bending, punching or any other cost-cutting methods typically used in products destined for “the masses”.
From importing the raw titanium …all the way through to the proprietary surface finishing …every part of the process of making this Grater gets personal care and attention.
Each Grater is truly made ONE AT A TIME. This is a true bespoke made piece designed to last generations.
Left-Handed Version Available
The Grater is designed so you push the handle away from you when grating (you can try pulling it towards you if you like …but you'll find pushing it away from you is much more effective and safer too).
I will be making both a Right-handed and Left-handed version of this Titanium Grater.
One-Piece Titanium Design (Fully CNC-Machined)
This Grater is composed of only one piece (which is precision cnc-machined from a solid block of titanium).
Not only does this make the design ultra-minimalist… but there are no areas or corners where food or bacteria can get trapped.
The end result is a high-strength and hard-wearing Grater that is pretty much indestructible.
Proven Ergonomic Handle Design
The handle of the Grater uses the same tried-and-tested design from my hugely popular Titanium Cheese Slicer and Titanium Vegetable Peeler.
100% Food-safe and Dishwasher-safe
Titanium is probably the most food-safe material available. It cannot rust (unlike some stainless steels).
As I mentioned earlier… the Grater is a simple, one-piece design and so there are no corners or areas where food or bacterial can get trapped.
And because this Grater is made entirely from titanium AND has a hard-wearing, proprietary surface finish then you can confidently put it in your dishwasher.
Hang Your Grater
Because I know a lot of people like to have their utensils hanging up for quick and easy access, I've made sure to put a hole on the rear of the handle for this purpose.
The hole is 7mm (0.275") in diameter.
Fits Any Cutlery Drawer
The Grater is slightly shorter than the average knife and fork …and so you can confidently put it in your cutlery drawer with the rest of your utensils.
Elegant Minimalist Design
The #1 criteria for this Grater was function (it had to perform flawlessly when grating) - but it also had to look good as well.
The Grater is almost certainly something you’re going to have and use for decades …and so it really needs to have a look you can live with for a long time.
Ultra-Smooth & Hard-Wearing Surface Finish
I'm ensuring this Grater has the same hard-wearing and ultra-smooth surface finish as the Titanium Peeler and Slicer in my previous Kickstarter project.
I'm having someone do this for me because I consider him to be the most knowledgeable and experienced person for titanium finishing here in New Zealand. This is the only part of the product I will “outsource".
Designed & Made in New Zealand
I'm a designer and machinist with my own cnc-machines and will be making this Titanium Grater myself from start to finish.
Apart from outsourcing to a friend to get the surface finish done I'm producing this Grater entirely at my home workshop. We're a "family business"... I have my wife Rachel working with me most days in the workshop and one of my daughters too (when she's home from college).
What Others Say...
Here is what just some of the Backers from my previous Kickstarter project said about the Titanium Peeler they received:
I've included options for the Titanium Peeler and Titanium Cheese Slicer from my previous Kickstarter projects too.
Take a look at the project Rewards below and select which Reward works best for you.
I'm Left-Handed. Will This Titanium Grater Work For Me?
Yes, because I am making a left-handed version for this project.
Just pledge as normal and I will ask you for which version (left- or right-handed) after the project is funded.
How Do I Pledge For Multiple Rewards?
If you want more than one of any Reward, then just add the additional funds to your pledge.
What Is The Size and Weight of The Titanium Grater?
The Grater comes in at a nice-and-light 50 grams (around 1.8 oz).
It's 185mm (around 7") long and machined from 6mm (just under 1/4") thick titanium.
Why Don't You Have Any Stretch Goals?
I like to keep this project as simple as possible so I can deliver your Rewards without any possible complications or delays.
Where Is The Titanium Grater Made?
Everything from machining …to surface-finishing …to shipping is done right here where I live in New Zealand.
I have my own CNC machining equipment where I work from my home-based workshop.
Risks and challenges
The only concern I have is that the project may get significantly over-funded. If this happens, then the worst case scenario is that Rewards may be delayed - but I will keep in constant communication with you through Updates.
I am ready to ramp-up into production of more when this project is funded.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
