Elizabeth Watson is an orphaned young woman living with her former adventuress sister Abhaya, is about to be engaged to a man who doesn’t respect her, and is quickly losing her resolve to be a respectable young woman.
But when she tags along with her sister to her seemingly simple bodyguarding gig, things…
Do not quite go as planned.
Suddenly, it’s up to Elizabeth to rescue the famous industrialist Victor Lovelace from the terrible clutches of sky pirates! And perhaps, just maybe, himself?
Maiden of the Machine began in 2014, born of many sleepless nights rewatching Atlantis: The Lost Empire and craving the kind of women-lead romance and adventure story I would have wanted to read in my teens. I've always been fascinated with the aesthetics and daily living in the late Victorian Era, and pressing together my love of Steampunk, Jane Eyre, and Frankenstein felt only natural.
Maiden of the Machine is rated YA for violence and language- Personally I rate the comic as "Old enough to handle Indiana Jones and Up"
After years of success in printing the first three chapters as floppy issues to sell at conventions, I am now at last ready to publish the first act of Maiden of the Machine in a single, beautifully bound package! And for that, I need your help.
Volume 1 will collect the first four chapters of the webcomic, which are available online now! In addition to the first four chapters, this lovely book will also contain never before seen sketches, a thank you comic, illustrations, and guest art!

Who are you?
I’m Caitlin Like! I’m a freelance cartoonist, colorist and creator of Maiden of the Machine. I’m a member of Helioscope Studios in Portland, Oregon, where I’ve lived since 2013. I will turn 28 over the course of this campaign and I have a spoiled, chubby cat named Pandora. You may have seen me and my floppies at Emerald City Comic Con, Rose City Comic Con, among other shows! You can find more of my work here!
Is the story complete?
Not yet! We are currently half way through chapter 7 on the website, which you can read here!
So this is Steampunk?
Sure is! But not in the classic sense. It borrows more Frankenstein and similar science-horror novels of the Victorian era for a more familiar looking Victorian London but with some advanced transportation and nifty gadgets for good measure.
For your standard X meets Y I would go for "Jane Eyre meets Frankenstein"
Is it romance?

This is my first Kickstarter, but I have the support of an experienced print tech and and an extensive network of fellow comic creators who have used Kickstarter with success to look to. The book is complete, all we need to do is print and ship.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
