Scavenge is a resource-based competitive survival game. Players compete for limited resources, engage in acts of theft and sabotage, trade with each other, and generally try not to die. Don’t worry though! On the Garbage Planet TR-4SH, bodies don’t just go to waste; they’re recycled into fearsome Junkmen!
The main focus of the game is how the relationship between players evolves through times of feast and famine. During each turn, living players consume resources and then take an action - they can scavenge for resources, search for items, or invest in buildings to help them not only survive, but thrive... and also conquer the world. Oh, did we mention that? Of course, you players wouldn’t let something like being stranded on a literal ball of garbage stop you from being geniuses! Players can complete one of two Super Projects in order to win the game - the Spaceship and the Death Ray. Or you can just wait for everyone else to be “recycled” - and maybe even help them along…
So what if you become a Junkman? Sure, it’s not a very glamorous life, you can’t work on the fancy Super Projects, AND you’re batteries are Lunar Powered, meaning they only operate at night… but now you can’t ever die again! As an added bonus, you can still win the game - by recycling every last living player! Once dawn or dusk rolls around and everyone's been recycled, then the Junkmen claim victory!
Enjoy playing a game with people instead of just watching? O.O (Watching face is watching...) Scavenge allows you to interact with your fellow players even when it is their turn. Numerous Interrupt cards allow you to cancel, steal or even copy others cards to use to your advantage. Oh, you're so devious!
Man, tough life, you got thrown out with the garbage and are stuck on a post-apocalyptic planet made out of rubbish. (Your parents are probably worried sick.) You are fending for your life and managing resources so you don't starve, freeze or even become sick with dehydration. What’s better than that? You are in a unknown territory with enemies trying to destroy you along with natural disasters slowly draining your life away (Gotta fight, bud). The choices you make seriously affect your chances at survival, so be wise, young one.
Do you want to get off this garbage planet since the smell is atrocious? Or, do you feel rebellious and just want to incinerate anyone who gets in your way? (That escalated quickly...) Best part too, if someone tries to purposefully get you out of the game by targeting you and stealing your resources, play the part of the vengeful Junkman and take revenge, ultimately winning by recycling all other players.
If that’s not enough choice for you, build some items! Buildings, weapons and Matter Converters aid you in your struggle. Fly away, kill everyone, seek revenge, or build a self-sustaining base. Your choice; choose your path.
You have one action a turn. Play a card, pull a card or construct an item. There are four card decks you can choose from. Three resource decks and one item deck. The resource cards can either help you get resources from the resource pool, or from other players. (Oh and did we mention you can offer a trade to anybody in the game at any point? Make friends, live longer.)
Construction cards will help you survive on this dump of a planet, whether it be constructing items to fight (beating people up is fun!), shelters to protect your resources, or one of the super projects to win. (To Victory!) The choice is entirely up to you.
Event and Encounter cards are scattered in the decks, and they can either help or hinder you. Encounter cards can be walked away from... or, you could fight to receive loot! Watch out though, if you challenge the encounter and do not have an item to fight with, you must roll the dice...
Junkmen come into play when a player needs to consume a resource at dawn or dusk, but can't. They can only take actions at night, because they're batteries run on Lunar Power (I guess solar power was too expensive) and have terrible battery life (must be why they were thrown out to begin with).
What's that you say? Lunar Power doesn't make any sense? Tell that to a Junkman, and see if they listen!
Day and night changes after every complete circle around the board. On your turn, you consume resources to stay healthy (food and water at dawn, and fuel at dusk.) If you don't have the resources you need, the Junkmen find you and turn you into one of their own. That's depressing, but there's still some hope for you! If every player is recycled during the same dawn or dusk (the same "round), the Junkmen are victorious.
"This game is wicked fun until you're eliminated. Then it gets better!" - Adam P.
"It is unique. Simple, easy to pick up. I like the different ways you can win." - Jordan S.
"Playing Scavenge was a pleasant surprise for me. I love resource management and strategic forethought, and Scavenge utilizes both while inspiring either cooperation or competition between players. Beautiful!" - Aaron N.
"I think Scavenge has a very well executed and very unique idea that drives every thematic element home. Dwindling resources, competition and alliances balance together throughout, especially when it comes to the junk men. Aesthetically pleasing as well, I highly recommend. gr8 m8, i r8 8/8" - T.J. S.

$20,000 - New Super Project
The first of our stretch goals is the inclusion of a third Super Project - the RecycloTron! Clean up the entire planet and create a utopia for yourself and those who follow you - or "recycle" those who won't!
$25,000 - More Cards With increased funds, we would be able to bring more artists on board to help with producing many more cards. Here are a few examples of cards that might be added:
Best out of three - Action - Choose one of the top three cards of the item deck to aid you in your struggle.
Junkyard Warrior - Action - Forcefully take one scrap from each opponent to complete items and buildings faster.
Borrow - Interrupt - Take an item from another player - but only for one turn.
$30,000 - Play mats for each player An idea we originally had to scrap due to costs, play mats allow players to have a clean, organized play area for all of their items, buildings, and resources without having to make the board gigantic.
$40,000 - 3D-Modeled resource tokens instead of small cardboard tokens - chits - we would love to have 3D-modeled tokens for a more beautiful and immersive game. Also, these tokens are much more durable than the chits, helping to ensure the game will survive more spills on game night!
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter project, so there is some inherent risk that comes with inexperience. However, we are collaborating with an institution that has a history of helping people establish kickstarters and manage them appropriately. To that end, we have begun planning the production run and are confident that with the funding level asked there would be no issue in producing and shipping our game - at least on our end. As with everything, the more people involved the more chances for error, so there is a slight chance that our manufacturers or distributors will have an issue resulting in delays. To mitigate this we are using The Game Crafters, a trusted and well reviewed corporation, to manufacture our game and assist with the distribution.
We all love Scavenge, and we want to bring it to you as painlessly as possible. We will do everything in our power to ensure that you come to love Scavenge too. If you have any concerns please don't hesitate to contact us here on Kickstarter or on our Facebook and Twitter pages!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
