This project was far from unsuccessful. Though we didn't meet our goal to have the game printed by USPCC, we did learn a lot and make contacts. The game launched this morning on Drive Thru Cards, a print on demand site and sister site to Drive Thru RPG. My original price point of $11 had to be raised to $13 to overcome the one off printing cost. However, since they don't charge for each 56 card cut sheet, we were able to include the Goblin Commoner Expansion in the base game.
It is time that goblins were seen as more than experience points with pointy ears. How many low level adventurers conduct wholesale slaughter upon goblin homes? There could be a much better life for this downtrodden race. Goblin Pit Fight allows this under served community of creatures a chance to make something of their lives, by risking all in the Pit for glory and riches.
Goblin Pit Fight is a card game for 1-8 players in which players choose one of four tribes of Goblins. This fast paced game generally takes 30-60 minutes to play. The object is to create the best hand; outscoring other players and possibly defeating the pit for extra points. It has an easy to learn scoring system that allows players to be creative when building a hand. Each player keeps a camp where they can secure cards for future rounds.
Risks and challenges
This is our first Kickstarter project and our initial game at Scribelife Games. It wasn't the first game we had ready to produce, but our research led us to make our first one simple as far as manufacturing. Therefore, we are starting with an awesome card game. It will give us a chance to prove our worth. Throughout the life cycle of the project from launch to delivery of rewards, we will update the project at least once every week.
During our first week of launch, I posted the artwork for the cards in a survey. Using the feedback received we started redesigning the cards with the help of a focus group of backers. I hope you like the new style of artwork as much as we do.
Against everyone's advice, I am launching this project for 42 days. Everyone says that 30 days is the optimal top end. However, my wife and I were married on binary 42, 10-10-10. Call me superstitious or sentimental, but for our first project I want the numbers to mean something. So it will end 42 days after we launch at 10:10am which is the time we got married. Plus for those Galactic Hitchhikers out there, 42 is a pretty important number.
As this is our first project, we are journaling our progress and pitfalls in a blog called, "Gamer to Entrepreneur" at http://scribelifegames.wordpress.com/.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
