Because there were no independent film festivals or indie music festivals in Southeast Texas, a group of volunteer organizers created the Boomtown Film and Music Festival three years ago. It's a non-profit event that we've put on annually in Beaumont, TX under the umbrella of a local 501.c.3 called The Art Studio (www.artstudio.org).
But in 2011 the festival will finally stand on its own two feet. But being independent means we are having to raise our own funds for the first time. We need to raise $2000 through Kickstarter to help cover the cost of renting venues (such as the Art Museum of Southeast Texas) and equipment (for film projection and live music) that we can't get donated to the event.
Next year's Boomtown Film and Music Festival will happen on February 25-26. Every year we screen scores of indie films from all over the world and present live performances by dozens of unsigned bands. We also try to bring in guest speakers to answer the questions of aspiring filmmakers and struggling musicians about how to break into their industries or just how to be better artists.
We do not charge a fee to anyone submitting a film to the festival, and the public is only charged $15 for an all-access pass that allows them to attend all screenings, concerts and panels. For more information about our event, please visit www.boomtownfestival.com.
If you want to help in the fight to keep indie art alive in Southeast Texas then please pledge to help us reach our goal. And even if you can't pledge, please help by spreading the word to your friends about our fundraiser.
