What I tried to do with this play, is capture a sense of the way we live now. The things thinking, feeling, moral people struggle with.

Sarah, a photojournalist, returns to Brooklyn from Iraq to recover from injuries suffered in a roadside bomb attack. Her long time partner James is there to help her, but has injuries of his own. Both characters struggle with physical and mental recovery from their trauma, and how their experiences have changed their relationship and each other. Can you really get back to "normal" or does normal change? What do we value, why, and when in our lives?

In Time Stands Still, Pulitzer Prize winning author Donald Margulies (Dinner with Friends, 2000) writes about big themes without being preachy, "His naturalistic banter blends biting comedy with moving human drama." (Boston Globe).  Margulies' script is by turns serious, acerbic, funny, and poignant.

This is a wonderful and very human work about issues that are sadly still incredibly topical. With the continuing conflict in Afghanistan, Iraq, ISIS, the Syrian civil war and refugee crisis, this play is just as relevant as it was when it premiered in February 2009.

SHOW INFORMATION:

All performances will take place at Sonorous Road Theatre, 209 Oberlin Road, Raleigh. Performance dates are January 1-3, 7-10, 14-17. Shows at 7:30 PM, Sundays at 2:00 PM.

Ticket rewards are good for any performance. We'll contact you after the kickstarter closes to confirm your reservation.

WHY WE NEED YOU: Putting on theatre isn't a money making venture. We're hoping to raise around $1,200, which, minus Kickstarter and credit card fees, should about equal the royalties we have to pay for the show. If we can at least raise this much, then additional ticket sales will only have to cover our venue costs, set, props and marketing.

WILL THE SHOW HAPPEN IF YOU DON'T HIT YOUR GOAL?

Yes! But getting $1,200 would do wonders for our ability to fund the rest of the costs and the inevitable unplanned incidentals. MORE SHOW INFO: Our company blog is http://southstreamproductions.blogspot.com/. Check back for rehearsal photos and other ruminations.

Risks and challenges

Risks? Well, last year we managed to avoid a major snow storm. Hopefully we'll do that again this year. Things can always go wrong, but this isn't a project where you donate money and it just disappears. This show is going to happen and you can help make that come true. We have a really strong team of people working on it and I'm sure we're up to the challenge.

The biggest challenge will be getting YOU to come see it. So support the show with a kickstarter pledge. Your financial commitment now helps us defray our costs and plan our budget. Last year, fully HALF of the money we paid to our artists came from YOU, extra money (over and above ticket reward levels) that was contributed to our kickstarter campaign. We also need you to get excited about the show. YOU are making it happen. Tell your friends, invite them to come!
