Update & Project Refund

I apologize for the length of time it has taken me to update you all on this project. I should not have kept you waiting so long, I am truly sorry for that. Unfortunately, I am unable to complete this project. However, I am going to be refunding each backer the FULL AMOUNT of their pledge (the plan to issue refunds is below).

It has been a difficult decision to move in this direction and cancel the project, but there have been many significant changes in my life circumstances and I realize that the best course of action is to refund everyone’s money. It has been a labor of love to work on BANE. The support my partner and I received along the way has been humbling and we cannot express our appreciation enough. Thank you all.

The Refund Plan

On December 1st, 2018 - I will start sending emails to confirm:

  • That the backer wants a refund
  • The name of the recipient of the refund
  • The amount of the refund
  • Current address

Since there is no automated way to issue refunds, I have to manually manage the process. My emails – and your responses – will help me stay organized and ensure accuracy. Everyone deserves their refund, but I'm only one person. My approach will be to work through the backer list in groups of 40-50 at a time, starting with the backers who pledged the highest amounts first. So, it will take me a little bit of time to get to everyone. As each confirmation is complete, that backer will receive a refund check.

Even though funds have been spent on things like Kickstarter fees, illustration, graphic design, manufacturing prep, promotions and the like, each backer will receive 100% of their pledge amount. You pledged your support and placed your trust in this project. It’s only fair that I honor that and give you your money back.

International backers: I will be working with each of you individually to find the most efficient way to get your refund to you.

As this refund process moves along I will work to be available to answer any questions you may have.

With gratitude, Matt

Sorry for the rough times, Matt. No sweat on the refund. I am just sad not to get such a fun game. Cheers, mate.

I've been stiffed on plenty of projects and never heard another peep from the creator, so I appreciate even hearing from you. Here's hoping refunds go through, and cheers for the communication.

I'll believe it when I see it.

I'm sorry to hear that the project is over. I'm curious about how much of a financial burden that refunding $23,000 is, because that sounds like a larger hassle than the project itself. If it is a burden, I personally don't want a refund. In 3 years, I'm sure I would have found something equally intangible to spend that money on, and your apology on the matter is enough. I'm sure you tried your best, and it clearly wasn't your intention to scam or mislead anyone. I AM sorry that your game never saw light, because I really liked the theme, and I hope the attempt has found you well.

Sorry to hear that this project has officially ended and not the way we all hoped. I wish you the best in the future and hope that someday this game might actually be made. Thanks for finally giving us an update.

Offering a 100% refund is no small thing. You wouldn't have even received 100% of our pledges, as Kickstarter and the credit card merchant take a cut, so this means you're giving us money out of your own pocket! Wow!!

I'm sad to hear that you're unable to complete Bane at this time, but I do hope that it might be realised somehow in the future - maybe even as a Print-'n-Play or on a digital tabletop like Tabletopia or Tabletop Simulator, which you could charge a little for to try to recoup some of your costs as well.

If you couldn't make it, I thank you for making it right, Mathew.
      Don't stop dreaming!

      Sorry to hear this Matt.
I was happy to back this up due to a mutual friend of ours (he's in your promo video).
It inspired me to purchase other upstart games while waiting for yours.
Thank you for coming clean. I was getting ready to yell at our beloved dude.

It's about damn time, you should have done this like two year ago.

I'm sorry to hear, that this projects gets cancelled. Would you care to elaborate, why you reached this decision? Depending on your reasons, I will not request a refund.

      Cheers from Switzerland
