In the near-distant future, after years of war and famine, a global pandemic kills most of the world’s population. Those that survive are transformed by the virus, unlocking a latent genetic code. Now, the world is ruled by the three original species of planet earth: Vampires, Werewolves and Super Humans.
In BANE, players control the conflict between these supernatural forces. It is a game for 2 - 5 players and plays between 30 min – 1 hour.
What is BANE?
BANE is a game of supernatural conflict between Vampires, Werewolves, and Super Humans. You play cards onto the hunting grounds (game board) in a series of engagements. Each engagement will determine which player will become prey - will that be you? Or will you out-maneuver your opponents and protect yourself? You will score based on how well you survive each round of the game (called the hunt). The player that reaches the Mastery space on their score track and has the most of their trophies remaining is the winner.
BANE offers a unique blend of smooth mechanics, dynamic decisions and a consistent play experience. It is a game that immerses you in a visceral struggle for dominance, driven by powerful choices. The BANE experience balances player skill with reacting to the situations the game places on you.

Some Experiences With BANE
"Bane elegantly breeds unique and competitive games, that are instantly fun for gamers of all caliber. I haven't had this much fun being a werewolf, since last full-moon." -- Chris Boren, Animator / Animation Director
"Bane is a game that is deceptively simple. From basic core concepts that are simple to learn and understand emerges a game of cunning cause and effect and tough choices. I have yet to meet someone who couldn't pick up the game and join in." -- Shaun Brasington, blind test group leader
"What I love about Bane is the layers of strategy that aren't obvious on the surface. It's competitive, but an opponent's play might spontaneously help you out. Protecting your trophies is more important that winning an individual engagement, so you learn to focus on the biggest threat." -- Hondo Henriques, long time playtester
"BANE was entirely unexpected for me. I had never heard of it, but hours after my first game, I continued to think about what I would do differently the next time. It's not like anything else I have on my game shelf. The mechanic is deceptively simple from first glance, but the actual game play happens somewhere else entirely: somewhere between your head, your mouth, and the player mat. Every time I play I am constantly challenged by my choices, my hand management, and by choosing my prey or hoping to just squeak by unnoticed. It is a pleasure to play every time, and I have no doubt it will hit the table over and over again." -- Sarah Waffle, Critical Brix
"Bane gets played amongst my coworkers more than any card game on the shelf. I’ve yet to run into anyone who’s not a fan after a few hunts." -- Nick Piatt, long time playtester
"Bane pulls me in. To win, I really have to play better than everyone else. Read the signals other players are sending by their card selection, and go on the hunt! The alliances formed and broken, the rotating advantage and disadvantage, the play and counter-play, all lead to a deep, challenging experience." -- Ben Brewster, long time playtester
"Bane takes one of the oldest mechanisms in gaming and revitalizes it in an unexpected and tactical direction. A stand out indy game!" -- Levi Mote of Bonsai Games

About the Authors
Mathew grew up a Chinese Checkers-toting, theatre geek-walking, Alaska-loving kind of kid. Once he graduated to Dungeons & Dragons at the age of 8, he was hooked on gaming. Mathew has always loved the power of movies and theatre to immerse viewers into another world, moving them through the story with layers of lore and legend, so much so that he’s taken the same approach with the table top games he designs. At Gamesicle, he heads the creative development.
His favorite part of Bane? Vampires, Werewolves, and Super Humans are always cool, but Bane is crafted so there’s always a chance for the outlier to win, the foe to be conspirator, the underdog to become Master of the Hunt. It’s a hunt-or-be-hunted game, dueling to the very end.
Throw a history term Shawn’s way and chances are, he’ll know exactly what you’re talking about. He’s the king of research, history, and technologies and develops ideas based on the obscure things he learns. He also knows that the art, rules and mechanics make “The Flow” and when these three pieces are crafted effectively, a body can happily lose hours in an immersive gaming experience. (Ask him, he was hooked on Mousetrap the week it came out, and has enjoyed tactile intrigue and guile in games ever since.) As such, he’s the idea feeder and rule developer alongside Mathew.
His favorite part of Bane? Bane offers players a chance to feel the ebb and flow of tension throughout the game without being completely aware of the mechanics of the game. The immersive quality of the rounds is such that nothing ever feels forced.
Not Our First Rodeo
BANE is our second game. With our first game, Junkyard King we were able to learn the process of game making first hand; test our process, attend conventions, play test, refine, work with retailers and prepare a product for publishing.
It was important to us at Gamesicle that we knew what was ahead of us for a project like BANE. So we put our "money-where-our-mouth-is" and proved to ourselves that we were prepared to bring our brand of game making to all of you.
Risks and challenges
Though relatively new to game publishing, the people at Gamesicle bring years of experience in product, inventory and retail management. More than two years of work has gone into Bane development, and the support we're receiving from industry insiders and professionals has been fantastic.
Play Tested and Tried -- BANE has gone through more than two years of dedicated testing, with hundreds of players from all walks of life. We’ve learned from the feedback and shaped BANE into the deep experience and ever-shifting game that it is. We are so excited to share this game with everyone!
Already Three Steps Into the Foursquare Game Dance -- We've lowered our risk by completing the majority of our development before bringing the game to Kickstarter. Once graphic design and artistry is finalized, it’s off to the manufacturer. Manufacturing and fulfillment partners have already been sourced to ensure our game is produced professionally and reaches you by the predicted delivery date.
As with any project, there are always things that can go awry. Though we cannot predict every conceivable circumstance, we are prepared. Our research and industry relationships bring us confidence that we will deliver our game to every backer and honor our commitments.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
