"It's changing out there. Just like last time. There's a storm coming, Harry. And we all best be ready when she does."
The Gathering Storm is a prequel story to the main series, focusing on the Marauders' sixth year at Hogwarts. The year is 1977, and the end of the Marauders' time at school is drawing closer. In addition to the adolescent stresses of school, rivalry, and romance that they must face together, the threat of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named looms on the horizon. Are the wave of attacks on muggleborn students just the random effects of sociopolitical upheaval happening within the Wizarding community, or is there something more sinister afoot? As Sirius faces the consequences of running out on his family, James, Lily, and Severus deal with the fallout of the lakeside incident the previous year. With the end of their time at Hogwarts drawing closer, everyone is forced to choose a side.
The Gathering Storm is a fan film prequel inspired by the world of J.K. Rowling. The film is being produced for Potterheads by Potterheads. Every cent we raise will go towards production, so that we can give you, our backers, with a truly magical film. The Marauders are some of Rowling's most fascinating characters, and we want the opportunity to give them the attention they deserve.
The Gathering Storm is scheduled to shoot the last two weeks of May at various locations around Massachusetts. This is quite close, but we have been working tirelessly on the film for almost eight months now, and we're ready.
Of course, since the film is entirely set at school, we had to secure over thirty uniforms of various Houses and Sizes for our cast and extras!
While we're currently in the final stages of location scouting, we have been fortunate enough to get permission to film at the beautiful Hammond Castle in Gloucester, MA!

With a Little Help from Our Friends
There just isn't a way to make this film the way it deserves to be made, on a small budget.
Camera & Equipment: Our incredibly talented Director of Photography, Amanda Mcgrady, is a professional cinematographer and Emerson Alumni. And to make the film look as incredible as possible, we'd love to get her the best equipment we can. We haven't decided on a specific camera yet, and our choice largely depends on how much we manage to raise. So help us get that Alexa that she's got her eye on!
Locations: One of the biggest challenges in making a film set in the Magical World is finding the right locations. We've tracked down some incredible venues, such as Hammond Castle and the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. And we're still hunting for the perfect location for some of our other sets. Of course, none of these places come cheap, so we need your help to be able to lock them in.
Costumes/Props/and Makeup: While creating a story in the HP Universe, and especially when working with a director who has a background in costume design, costumes will of course be a big deal. On top of the thirty plus Hogwarts uniforms that we have for the student characters, we have the Marauders' casual clothes, and of course original costumes for our faculty characters like Slughorn and McGonagall!
On top of the costumes, we need props and makeup to sell the film. Remus' scars, all of the wands (some of which will be custom designed for the film), books, and of course the Map- there are a lot of little details that are necessary for the film.
Visual Effects: Of course you can't do a Harry Potter film without magic! We're currently in talks with several incredibly talented VFX artists about bringing the sorcery of the Magical World to life!
*Of course, it's important to note that our the price figure at the top of this page is the minimum we need to be able to pull off this film. If we're able to raise more, it will allow us a bigger budget for fun things like more visual effects, better cameras, and a bigger and better soundtrack!
Donations are of course a big deal, but exposure is just as vital! Please spread the word on any and all social media sites, and help us make The Gathering Storm a reality! And of course feel free to chat us up on any of them!
Disclaimer: The Gathering Storm is in no way affiliated with or endorsed by Warner Bros or J.K. Rowling. All donations will strictly go towards production of this fan film and not any personal monetary gain.
Thank you for your support!
Risks and challenges
We've spent months in pre-production, developing a cast and crew of devoted and passionate fans with an incredible amount of talent. The last remaining factor in being able to bring the Marauders to life is funding. Help us make The Gathering Storm a reality!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
