The four most powerful and respected members of the tribe, the Chief, Shaman, Hunter and Maiden, have come together, each seeking the favor of the Great Spirit. To win that favor, the four must each perform a ritual dance, with the best dance earning the desired favor.
Mahola (meaning dance) is a lively and engaging card game for 3 to 4 players themed around the beautiful dances of the Native American culture. A full game typically takes around 30 minutes to finish.
From the very first play test, Mahola has been a player favorite. Experienced professionals to casual players have all found the game fun, full of interaction and beautiful to look at.
Reviewers have great things to say about Mahola!
You may be wondering where the customary stretch goals are. To be honest, there are none because the game is complete as it stands. You're getting high quality components and art from the get go.
I thought about adding the Wampum Beads as a stretch goal, but I thought that some might not like having real bone tokens. I decided that I'd let the backers decide for themselves if they wanted them for a minimal addition to the cost of the game. It's an interesting touch that I thought would add to the theme of the game.
I have just been given the option of making the cards in linen! It adds a little cost to the game but I ran some numbers and I can swing the upgrade if we to $2200 in pledges! Lets get there!
I have decided to reward all backers with a Kickstarter Only reward for supporting Mahola! Introducing the Tribal Elder. This will only be available to backers and never offered in the retail version of the game.
The review by the Bearded Meeple has an excellent breakdown of the rules and how to play the game. Here are the rules if you want to check them out yourself.
The Playing Board Games Twitch show played a full game of Mahola and give their feedback during and afterwards. They loved it. Check out the video on their YouTube channel.
Here is a game play video I made to show the game 'in action'. I did this one solo, and add some strategies to help you make the best dance!
Feel free to ask any questions you may have!
Mahola will retail at $20 in stores, but backers will get their game at a big discount as a huge 'thank you' for helping to make the game a reality!
Thank you for your interest, and I hope you will become a backer!
Here's what some of the backers have been saying about my previous successfully funded game Posse: Wild West Justice:
- "Loving the game, and it's been a Christmas hit with the Family!"
- "Won my first game of Posse tonight. I really enjoyed. Looking forward to another go."
- "Enjoyed the mechanics, loved the theme."
- "This game is great!"
- "He really dug [Posse], he ended up staying an hour after his shift ended to play more games of it."
Risks and challenges
First, let me get the standard disclaimer out of the way.
There are always issues that can pop up which can never be accounted for or foreseen. I have minimized these by doing as much preparation as possible and having a good plan in place. I will always keep backers informed without spamming, and will be open to any and all questions about the game or the campaign.
My first campaign was Posse: Wild West Justice, which funded in September 2015, and was completely fulfilled December 2015... well in advance of the estimated March 2016. I built in time to account for the completion of the character art, and shipping of dice from China, etc. Almost everything planned for went well, and the game was ready early. 90% of the backers had the game in hand before Christmas.
Mahola is planned with the same attention to detail. The game is fully designed and tested, and has been getting kudos from all that have played it. Once funded, and the funds are transferred, production will be set into motion. No time is wasted getting you the game you pledged for!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
