About this project
Re-live the early days of space flight in Go For Launch: Mercury, the first in a series of games exploring the early days of space flight.
The Alpha demo puts you in the cockpit of Mercury-Redstone 3 "Freedom 7", the first American manned space mission. Every detail of the cockpit, systems and flight have been meticulously researched to be as authentic as possible. What you experience is exactly as it was seen by astronaut Alan Shepard on the morning of May 5 1961 as he sat in his capsule atop a modified Redstone missile.
Please note that this demo is an early alpha and does not include full control interaction. Future versions will include a fully interactive cockpit with every switch functioning as the original.
A Notice About our Timeline
We have set our "delivery date" for 2018, however please be aware I fully expect to have the game completed well in advance of this date. Rather than set a date too soon and risk disappointing with a later publish, I'd much rather you got the game sooner than expected! Below is the estimated schedule.
Alpha - right away! Builds will be available to all £12+ backers throughout 2016
Beta - Late 2016-2017
Final release 2017-2018
I think it's important to be open and honest about the variable nature of scheduling video game development and hope you choose to back this project!
What Our Reviewers Are Saying
About The Project
Go For Launch: Mercury is the first installment in a series of simulations chronicling the early days of space flight. With full integration for either a standard computer monitor or full VR via a headset GFL:Mercury will take you on the ultimate adventure into space and let you re-live the exact experiences of those early pioneers, the Mercury Seven.
- 7 fully functioning, interactive spacecraft interiors and exteriors. Each individually crafted to accurately portray the changes in design and loadout.
- 7 complete playable missions from the mercury program (including the cancelled Freedom 7II)
- Detailed models of the Atlas and Redstone rockets on historically accurate launch pads (and the ability to witness test launches from the ground!).
- A full scale recreation of earth as seen from low orbit.
- A virtual recreation of mission control including control room, spacecraft hangar and pilot's office.
GFL: Mercury is being designed from the ground up to be as authentic and accurate as possible. It is our hope to offer it as an educational product as well as an entertainment project, suitable for use by schools and colleges to educate and engage students in the fields of astronomy, spaceflight and history.
With your help GFL:Mercury will be a valuable addition to the educational and entertaining world of VR simulation.
All systems go!
Risks and challenges
After funding we will begin immediately to expand on the groundwork already carried out for the Alpha demo.
GFL:Mercury is largely developed by a single artist, with additional contribution from a leading UK games coder. Successful funding will allow development to take priority over all other freelance work as well as providing capital for additional equipment needed for development.
The greatest challenge we face is bringing the final version of the game to a complete state in the best time possible. We will address the potentially long development with regular updates to our backers keeping you informed of the overall progress and showing off details as we create them.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
