Coming off the resounding success of our first Kickstarter project "The Guns of Gettysburg", Mercury Games is pleased to announce our second Kickstarter game: Infamy by Travis R. Chance and featuring artwork by Sean Chen!
Infamy is a unique twist on the “crime minion wants to become crime boss” story. In a distant future, you play the part of an aspiring criminal, a Freelancer, who sees a new opportunity to ply his particularly nasty skills on the Martian colony of ARES-6. But ambition won't be enough to carve out a piece of Mars that's all your own. You need to prove yourself useful to the current crime bosses on the planet, before trying to force your way to the top!
Travel to the many seedy sectors of ARES-6 while gathering Resources and accomplishing Missions for one of three factions in the colony. Gain Reputation among the factions and gain Infamy from finishing missions others are too afraid to attempt. To climb the corrupted rungs of these ladders you are going to need help. Meet and negotiate with underworld Contacts to use their skills to help you succeed. The trouble is, other freelancers with aspirations like your own are also trying to deal with your contacts. You’ll have to be more adept than your rivals at bribing to secure the help you need. If you play your cards right you can also Scheme your way to the top of Mars’ infamous colony.
Infamy is designed by Travis R. Chance and is accompanied by a host of stunning cyberpunk visuals during gameplay that make this game one of 2013's finest. A game for 3-4 players, Infamy brings a unique bidding system, simultaneous travel mechanism and interesting card play together with a sci-fi, crime story, off-world genre not often gamed.
Speaking of visuals, we're thrilled to feature the work of many talented artists, including Sean Chen who is noted for his work in comic books including Iron Man* and Wolverine*.
Infamy's visually-stunning all-new artwork takes you to a distant dystopian cyberpunk world, and the gameplay will keep bringing you back for more.

WHAT YOU GET
By pledging at any backer level, you'll receive 1 or more copies of Infamy when it is finished. This game will be made to the highest-quality standards by a team of professionals. Those who backed our Guns of Gettysburg project can attest to the level of quality we strive for.

THE CONTACTS OF ARES-6
Let's introduce you to a few of the 13 contacts that you'll interact with in your time on ARES-6. These contacts are printed on large, high-quality cardboard tiles with stunning artwork. We'll introduce you to more as we progress through this project (so watch for updates!)
As the saying goes, 'knowledge is power.' The Trust Megacorp knows this better than anyone. Younger candidates have greater neural plasticity, making them ideal data acquisition specialists.
In ARES-6, aspiring criminals rely on like individuals to knuckle and shoulder their way to the top. Simply put, knowing the right person is as good as being known... even when it's someone as seedy as the Peddler. As you can see, all three factions consider the Peddler a necessary evil; you need it, he has it--including a weird third arm coming out of his chest.
On ARES-6, "compound" is black market currency. Citizens crave it, and the Harada Cartel are the only ones capable of synthesizing the mineral geodesite, so their influence extends beyond the colony. Though it's illegal, that doesn't seem to stop you either. The Chemist is therefore everyone's friend and society's worst nightmare all at the same time.
We have a very nice batch of stretch goals available for the Infamy project.
**UPDATE!** - This stretch goal has been manually unlocked by the Mercury Games Team! See Update #3 for full details!
An upgrade to a complete set of Wooden Freelancer Sculpts, including a wooden Sculpt of the Accomplice! This Stretch Goal will be included for all copies of the game, and replaces the previously-planned wooden blocks representing the Freelancers.
Each Freelancer Sculpt measures approximately 26mm tall, and is color-coordinated to match their respective Sector Cards. They can be made to stand up if you wish, but we have designed them so that they are best-viewed lying down on their sector card when not on the board.

Sean Chen has graciously offered his original black linework art to some lucky backers. These are approximately 8.5" x 11", on bond paper, and each one is a one-of-a-kind original and signed by comic book artist Sean Chen!
The subject for the artwork are the Contacts (the characters you enlist to help you carry out your goals - you'll find the various characters throughout this listing and in our updates). There is also a linework of the Triggerman marker (the gun).
We have made a special backer level for these, and it includes a copy of Infamy. So if you're in another backer level and wish to upgrade to receive this artwork, you can easily switch into the higher pledge level.
This backer level is extremely limited though (just 10 spots!) so once they're gone, that's it!
In order to be most fair to all backers at this level, we will randomly pick the linework sent to each backer. It's all amazing work though - you'll be impressed!
Please note that this backer level is only open to backers in the U.S. and Canada.
WHEN DO YOU GET YOUR GAME?
Mercury Games believes strongly in the backer-creator relationship on Kickstarter, and our policy is to deliver a high-quality product in a reasonable amount of time. We have faith in the Infamy project and have already devoted many hours to preparing the preliminary items for publication.
We believe that shipping of Infamy to Kickstarter backers will begin by the end of November, 2013. How's that for prompt delivery?
This speed of delivery comes at a cost, however. In order to meet such quick deadlines while still maintaining our high level of quality, we are only able to print a limited quantity for our first print run as printer capacity is limited.
If this project does remarkably well, with signs that the community wishes to have more copies made available for this campaign, we do have the option available for an additional print run, which would mean more backer levels being added. However, this optional print run would only be ready for delivery in early 2014. This means that if you want the game before the end of 2013 (barring unforeseen delays, of course), you should be sure to support it in the initial group of backers.
We cannot promise that a second set of backer levels will be made available during this campaign. It's possible, but not guaranteed. If we do ultimately open a second set of backer levels, they would also receive the stretch goals.
INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS **UPDATED!!**
By popular demand, we have researched the best possible ways to ship this large/heavy game outside North America. It is not feasible with single copies, however, it becomes more affordable with multiple copies. Therefore, we have elected to add "INTERNATIONAL BACKER" options for 2 copies and 4 copies in order to allow our international friends the chance to participate.
Please ensure that your country is listed and be sure to note any additional charges that may apply to your country. If you do not see your country listed but wish to participate, please contact us for an exact shipping quote. We reserve the right to cancel/refund any backers which pledge at an incorrect backer level or who do not add the proper shipping amount (if applicable).
We would love to be able to ship individual copies of this game internationally, but with shipping rates on the rise it is not fair for us to ask international backers to pay a shipping rate of $50+ per game. At the very least shipping multiple copies reduces the per-game shipping amount to a reasonable level and permits friends to order the game together to take advantage of these savings.

IF YOU FORGET TO MANUALLY ADD THE INDICATED AMOUNT FOR YOUR AREA
We understand that Kickstarter is new to a lot of you and we also understand that many people have forgotten or do not know how to add the shipping costs. Unfortunately neither Kickstarter nor Amazon Payments will let us ask our backers to add shipping costs separately so we have to ask you to do it manually (Sorry about the extra hassle). If you haven't added shipping costs please ensure that you do so before the end of the project.
Here are the steps to make it easier for you if you've forgotten to add in the correct amount when you pledged:
1. Go to our Kickstarter page and log into your account.
2. Click the "Manage My Pledge" button on the top right hand corner, above the backer options.
3. Manually add the shipping costs in addition to your existing pledge. For example if you pledged the $45 option and you live in the Hawaii, manually enter the value $70 ($45 + $25). DO NOT change the current pledge to only say $25 as this will not add to your total pledge - instead it will change your pledge to $25 total.
4. Click next and continue to checkout through Amazon Payments like you did the first time.
Please note that you will NOT be double charged if you change your pledge in this manner. Only the last pledge you entered will be left in the system. Once the project is approved, Amazon Payments will not allow us to assess the correct charges if you fail to enter the proper shipping total, and your pledge may be delayed (while we try to contact you) or cancelled/refunded at our discretion.

Risks and challenges
As a professional publishing company, Mercury Games is very familiar with the publishing process and how to set realistic timelines. We believe that we can once again live up to our estimates as we did with our previous project.
There are some elements of the project that our outside of our control. For example, logistical failures can mean delays in shipping for all kinds of reasons. Our relationship with our logistics company is a good one, but ultimately we have little control if the shipment is delayed once on the ocean.
