As seen in...

You’ve seen camping stoves. You’ve seen woodburners. Meet the Frontier Plus.

The Frontier Plus is a portable woodburning stove that can be installed in tents, sheds, tipis and tiny houses, or used outside for toasty, efficient outdoor cooking and heating.

The whole stove packs down to an easily portable size, and with the sturdy side handle you can carry it wherever you set up camp: the woods, the beach or your own back garden.

Follow us on Twitter, Facebook and Google+ for updates - or take a look at our website.

So what does it do?

  • Set-up takes just minutes.
  • Cook with multiple pans at once on the top.
  • Remove the top plate for direct heat from the flames, or replace for a more even heat.
  • Heat any space, from a small shed to a large yurt or tipi, using the door vent to control heat.

The three things that matter:

Making stoves is our passion. When we design a new one, we think of three things:

1. How can we make this stove better than anything else out there?

2. How can we use it to become more sustainable?

3. How can we use it to help people?

Our original Frontier Stove was designed to be sent out to disaster zones (helping people), was the most efficient, lightweight and portable in its field (better than anything else out there) and ran on wood fuel, which is a carbon neutral fuel (sustainable).

Better than anything else out there

When we designed the Frontier Plus we knew we had to do these three things even better. This one is literally in a class of its own: you won't find a portable stove with a 4-inch flue and a glass window anywhere else.

Even more efficiency

With the added air control on the door it's even more efficient than its predecessor.

Helping people

The most important part of this project, however, is how we're going to help people. We've always worked closely with the aid world, and we believe in sustaining that help long after the media has turned away in the wake of disaster. That's why we'll be offering a Frontier Plus HELP NEPAL Edition: if you'd like to help, choose this option and with the little extra you pay, helped along by the money we'll raise from the campaign, we'll install a stove identical to yours in a home or shelter in Nepal.

We've sent over 12,000 Frontier Stoves out to disaster zones all over the world, and we intend to continue this tradtion. It's a big part of who we are, and your support for this campaign will allow us to help people

How we designed the Frontier Plus

At Anevay we like to work closely with you, our customers, and we always have. When we made the Frontier Plus, we listened to feedback from our customers, trawled internet forums to figure out the wants and needs of all sorts of different outdoor communities, and quizzed the experts in every field from bushcraft to family camping.

After our original Frontier Stove developed a cult following, you said you’d like a stove with a glass window so that you could see the flames, and our Traveller Stove was born. This time around, we listened to your requests for a stove with a bigger flue but the same portability that the Frontier has; for the glass window and airwash system that makes the Traveller so wonderful; for even more cooking space on top and the capability to install through the roof, a side wall, or a tent vent.

Tech specs

The stove weighs 16.95kg with all flue sections included.

Height with all the flue sections fitted together is 2.5m.

The footprint with the legs set to their extended setting will be 83cm x 45cm.

The footprint with the legs set to their shortened setting will be 71.5cm x 35.5cm. (Footprint dimensions are given as a rectangle but the actual footprint will take up less space, as the legs form a tripod with two at the back and one at the front.

The height of the top plate from the floor is 48cm with legs extended, and 40cm with the legs shortened.

The firebox size is 47cm x 28cm x 23cm (length x width x depth/height).

The stove will be fabricated from mild steel. The top plate will have a thickness of 2.5mm, and the body thickness will be 2mm.

Timeline

We've planned long and hard for every step of this project. We've got back-up plans in place for everything from the launch, to production, to delivery. However, if anything changes, you'll be the first to know; we promise we'll keep you informed of every development along the way.

Why Crowdfund?

Every stove we’ve ever designed has been made with our customers in mind. We’ve listened to your feedback to give you the best possible stove. We want to continue this tradition, working closely with you and listening to your suggestions at every step of the way. Your support through Kickstarter means that we can get this underway now, working together with you, and you can have an awesome stove in your hands in a few months.

Thank you!

We are incredibly grateful for your support, whether you pledge £5 or £500. Our passion is making beautiful, useful stoves that are good for the planet, and we think this is our best yet. Thank you for helping make this a reality.

Risks and challenges

Putting anything into production always comes with risks. We can’t promise that there won’t be any delays or complications, but we do promise that we’ll always keep you in the loop with regular updates, and that come hell or high water we will deliver you a great product at the end of the project. We’ve put five stoves into production now, from tiny portable ones to sturdy, handcrafted camp stoves, so we’ve got lots of experience in dealing with the blips and bumps the process can throw up. We’ll be working with the same manufacturer who produced our Frontier Stove, so you won’t be the guinea pigs for an untrialled manufacturer, and this means that we can be realistic when drawing up our timeline. We’ve sourced the best quality raw materials and we’ve installed rigorous quality control every step of the way.
Now all we need is to spread the word! The more support we get, the better we can make this project, so we’d love it if you could help us out and share the campaign with everyone in your circle.

When it comes to the safety of our stoves, we've got years of experience and technical know-how to ensure that anything we produce is 100% safe. The flue system means that any fumes and smoke are transported right out of the tent. You can trust us to keep you safe, warm and cosy.

FAQ

  • You’ll get an amazing stove with glass door, secondary air control and adjustable legs, as well as five flue sections and a spark arrestor to fit on top. All the flue sections will fit inside the body of the stove, so you can easily carry it to wherever you pitch up!

  • We’ve got years of experience in designing and manufacturing hardwearing products that have been tested in the field (from disaster zone to campsite to bivvy in the woods). We’ve already got great working relationships with our suppliers and manufacturers, and in case anything does go wrong, we’re well prepared with more than one Plan B!

    Last updated:
  • Yes! All you’ll need is the correct silicone flashing kit to easily install the stove in your tent, shed or van. We’ll be supplying these separately, as the one you’ll need will depend on where you’re fitting the stove.

    Last updated:
  • Of course! We’ve been installing woodburning stoves in all sorts of small spaces, including tents, for many years, and we have never had any safety issues. Taking a regular barbecue inside a tent is dangerous because there’s no way for the fumes to escape: our stoves have a long flue to transport the fumes far away from the inside of your tent and shed. The flue creates a draw, or suction, that pulls all the smoke and fumes from the firebox and up the chimney, so you won’t get any smoke leaking into your tent.

    Last updated:
  • The stove will stand at 2.5 metres with all the flue sections fitted together.

    Last updated:
  • Yes. For the first time, we are offering a stove with a flue that can go through the side wall of a tent OR through the roof. Sometimes, it’s just not an option to fit the flue through the roof (maybe you’ve got a glass roof in your shed), so now you can fit the flue through the side wall too. You’ll use the same flue sections; you’ll just need our angled corner flue sections to configure the flue the way you want it.

    Last updated:
  • Not anymore! We’ll also be manufacturing (sold separately – although we would like to offer this as a stretch goal if we hit our target) insulated flue sections which will allow you to take the flue through the zip-up side flaps of a bell tent or tipi, without having to cut any holes. You’ll just need to zip up the mesh/canvas tabs around the insulated flue section.

    Last updated:
  • Absolutely. Because of the secondary air control on the door, you'll be able to completely control the heat output. The type and amount of wood you use will also affect heat output, so you can have a roaring fire on the coldest winter nights and keep it ticking over when it's a bit warmer.

  • Absolutely not - three legs is actually much more stable than four. Something with four legs will tip easily on its axis, whereas a three-legged stove won't. It also makes the stove much more stable on uneven ground.

  • When we initially launched, we wanted to offer 100 early bird editions. However right at the beginning ewe realised that if we just made our target, and sent out 100 stoves at the early bird price, we'd be stretched to cover all our costs, shipping and everything we need to make this happen. Although we'd to love to do 100, we've got a responsibility to everyone who's pledged to make sure we see this through to the incredibly high standards we set ourselves, so we limited it to 50. We're sorry for any confusion this might have caused, but we promise that if we smash through our target we've got some exciting stretch goals up our sleeve for everyone who's pledged!

    Last updated:
  • The nominal heat output will be 3.5kW. You can vary this depending on your needs with the air control on the door and the type and amount of fuel you use.

    Last updated:
  • The tent we used is a 5-metre canvas bell tent. They work wonderfully with our stoves, with lots of room inside, and mean you can camp all through winter without getting cold.
