Ruthless mobsters, relentless arcane horrors, and mysterious dangers from the darkest corners of the world threaten the helpless and hapless citizens of the city. Be the heroes who rise to face these challenges in Worlds of Pulp RPG by Scaldcrow Games!
The Worlds of Pulp brings you two RPG books. Each book contains the complete rules to Bare Bones Beyond pulp era role-play. This is a lightening quick and easy to understand game mechanic.
The first book is Rotwang City: City of Shadows, detailing characters in a 1930s style U.S. city, called Rotwang. It is a two-fisted pulse pounding den of excitement and danger where the superstitions and innocence of the 19th century have given way to new experimental sciences, political corruption, rampant industry, and an ever-changing and expanding criminal element.
The second book is Davey Beauchamp’s Amazing Pulp Adventures, set at the dawn of the Golden Age of Comics with a backdrop of World War II in the explosive onset of an age of reason. This book details Sapphire City—The City of tomorrow, To-Day! It isa city where miraculous science and imagination work to lift civilization out of the shadow of war and onward to an era once thought unachievable. Not everyone shares this dream and the heroes will have to fight hard against fear, war, and criminal sciences to prevent the most powerful villains from destroying man’s great endeavor!
These books contain:
—the complete rules for pulp style gaming in Bare Bones Beyond; a simple, fast-paced and descriptive RPG system, where all you need is 2d6 and your imagination!
—the archetypes of the heroes and adventurers used to create new, original pulp characters. Archetypes include: Bare Knuckled Battler, Futurist, Eagle-eyed Reporter, Gadgeteer, Shadow of Justice, Human Exemplar, Jungle Lord, Masked Adventurer, Mystic Aristocrat, Nosey Socialite, Supernatural, Top Echelon, Tough Detective, Treasure Hunter, and more.
—the complete history of the city, its political organization, citizen outlook, and unique flavor.
—a full description of original pulp heroes for each city. Characters include heroes like: Ace Midnight, Cassandra (Knight Warrior of Avalon), Crimson Moth, Dexter Charles (The Warden), Doctor Phantom, Kid Adventure, Lady Zaska, Mighty Mace and Aegis Lad, Mister Adventure, Platinum Fox, Shadow Smasher, Solomon Stone, Scorpion, Vogue, Welsh Dragon, and more.
—a full description of original pulp villains for each city, ruthless pulp malefactors like: AtomiK Fist, Alfrancais Brainvine the Magnate, der Schwarze Geist, Dark Mask, Death Mark, Dr. Zhou, Eerie Patrician, Gentleman Thieves, Iron Mask, Purple Lotus, Mahjongg, Masked Gunfighter, Master of Zombies, Michael Aztek, Mister Crow, Pale Skull, Shadow X, Occultus (The Red Hood), Slum Lord, Super Nazi, and more.
—a description of the principle characters that make up government and law enforcement in the cities, as well as some of the smaller heroes, villains, and key citizens.
—a description of the city itself, detailed as a character in the Bare Bones Beyond system, allowing the game master to determine city-wide reactions at a glance.
—150 story hooks, specific to each city and its characters.
—a brief history and description of the pulp age it represents.
—special rules for the creation of signature moves unique to the heroes.
—special rules for villainous plot tropes. Each villain brings certain elements to plots in which they appear. For instance: Dr. Zhou automatically involves complex plots and deathtraps when he is involved in a game. Mister Crow guarantees there will be exotic animal sightings, mysterious animal attacks, and strange mutations. Brainvine the Magnate will involve an industrial labor force, WWI relics, and WWI references. Each villain also brings specific bonuses and penalties which will affect the feel of the game.
—a special introductory adventure. Rotwang City includes: Vault of Lies and Sapphire City includes: Museum of Death.
—new original fiction Davey Beachamp and T. Glenn Bane.
Your Money Goes
Our goal is to write, create, and print Worlds of Pulp’s first two books, Rotwang City: City of Shadows and Davey Beauchamp’s Amazing Pulp Adventures. With your support we can do it. This is where your money will go.
the writers, publishers, and contributors connected with this project.
—Paying editors, illustrators, and graphic designers.
—Paying for the printing and shipping of this book.
We need you to make this happen.
Once we have fully funded this first project, we will continue to produce pulp characters, adventures, and stories in our ongoing newsletter. The World of Pulp begins with this kickstarter, but that is only the beginning; if you’re like us, you can’t get enough pulp!
Every $50 you pledge over the $50 level (Early birds included) will reward you an additional copy of the paperback books. Give them out to your friends as gifts or keep them safe in your own pulp vault. This does not include the all-inclusive hardback. Sorry, this offer cannot be applied to international orders.
Thank you for your support so far, but we are not done giving…
—Every $150 over our $2,500—adds a new fully detailed and illustrated pulp adventure which will be included in the weekly newsletters (automatically yours at the $5 backer level). Each newsletter adventure will include new and classic pulp characters, locations and plot hooks. Also included will be a PDF with paper miniatures for all new characters. The first classic character will be Fu Manchu.
—$3,000—this adds five new Amazing Pulp Adventures characters to its book as well as five new, fully detailed characters to Rotwang: City of Shadows. These characters will also have accompanying PDFs of their paper miniatures for use in your table-top pulp era campaign.—$4,000—this level adds a cross-over module spanning Sapphire City and Rotwang. This giant module will be in a PDF format. It will include more classic characters from the pulp era to add into your game along with the accompanying PDF paper miniatures.
If we should reach this goal we will gladly add additional content

Risks and challenges
Since 2007, Scaldcrow Games has produced ten books, for fantasy, hero, horror, and science fiction; as well as numerous art books. We have a group of in-house illustrators, designers, and writers. We do not foresee challenges with the production of these books. Any likely difficulties are naturally unexpected. Sadly, sickness and natural disasters cannot be predicted. We hope to be spared such trials. In the event something unforeseen were to happen, we have professional contacts in the industry we can depend on. In addition to the RPG industry we also have contacts in the publishing world, through current and past projects. We are confident our difficulties would not become yours.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
