About this project
Among the Fallen: Genesis is a novel we created and released
just over a year ago. It’s a very different version of the standard “zombie
apocalypse” theme, as we wanted to bring in the supernatural theme to go with
it. The book itself has done very well, we’ve landed a contract to finish the
next three books, and currently, we are working on the second part.
We are also discussing (in negotiations with) a leading software publisher, and we are discussing a game version of the book on the Playstation 4 - so this is a very exciting time, especially if you want a a copy of this very Special Edition.
Alex is the daughter of the mayor of Blackwater, a vast city in the middle of the American outskirts rich with history of occult and watchcraft. These days, the city is a showcase of technology, trial laws and great projects that aim to aid human evolution.
On one summer night, Alex and her sister, Sarah, are brutally murdered after stumbling into some kind of personal fight between two unseen entities. Alex's spirit is strong, and as a result her soul is kept in storage in the darkest depths of the afterlife where a strange being known only as the mechanic rebuilds her body in preparation for "the game"
Alex is eventually revived and given a strange suit known only as "Asphixia Battle Armour". An armor used by the soldiers of the Fallen realm. The Fallen are a race of beings which live in a world along side our own, demons to some, maybe angels and ghosts to others. Someone in Blackwater has opened a gate for the Fallen, someone so powerful, so vile, that he is involved deeply in the New World Order and is using the Fallen to bring on end times.
By demonic law, any world the Fallen invade, have to present a warrior, a gladiator if you will. All Alex has to do is defeat the five Fallen challengers and Earth wins, however, it's not as simple as that. As the Fallen recreate Blackwater into their own vision of hell, the three-million murdered citizens that once dwelled there are reborn, their rancid corpses given a vile second breath!
The first part, Among the Fallen: Genesis, is all about Alex's resurrection and her return to Blackwater where she discovers the hell that waits for her, and where she soon realizes that the world she once loved and its future, lies upon her own decaying shoulders.
So what are we after?
The idea is very simple. Like "Kill Bill", the movie by Quentin Tarantino, he has segments that go from real actors to animation. We are working on that premise my including sections within our novel that will be comic illustrated.
We own all the copyrights, and myself, I wasn’t completely happy regarding the finished product. The book is good, but the editors removed three chapters because they interrupted the flow. Two of these chapters, “Glass Water” and “Riot” just happened to be my favourite chapters.
Also, a lot of the reviews we have had have said “amazing – but, I would have loved to see this as a comic/graphic novel/video game” ect.
So the goal with this “Special Edition” is to create literally that. We want to create a COMPLETE version, with concept art, the missing three chapters in comic form, as well as new design.
We obviously do not expect you to part with your money on blind faith alone - so for the duration of this kickstarter campaign we have dropped the price of the original book to under a pound so you can get a feel of what we are all about - if not, there's a sample at least.
As you can see from Amazon's statistics, we are quite high up the chain of demand #52 (27th August) so the project will be well respected.
At the moment, we have a few designated artists, three artists, three chapters. Much in the same way of the Batman Legends that was released on DVD a few years ago, each chapter will have a unique art style. All three will be Manga of course, and already I'm sure you can see differences all ready. Why did we do this?
Okay, so the obvious reason would be time issues, however, it goes a bit deeper than that. Everyone who has read Among the Fallen: Genesis, came away with something completely different.
The various strands were similar, ex. red sky, Alex and zombies, but the world and battleground was another issue. So seeing three styles of manga is somewhat refreshing.
Chapter 16: Sync
Alex makes her way onto Candy Avenue, a popular themed street with sweet shops, candy stores and toy emporiums. On this street she notices the sleepwalkers (zombies) steer clear, leaving a potential safe haven. However, upon activation of her suit, she looks upon the street with her advanced vision, seeing the reason why even the dead stay away. Alex goes head to head with the ghost of Michael Stitchin, the ruthless and sadistic child killer of 1983.
Chapter 19: Glass Water
Alex escapes a horde of Sleepwalkers onto a dark and desolate street. There are no lights, no signs of anything in fact - until the ground lights up beneath her feet. The street is made of glass, beneath it are thousands of people floating in the water, their faces etched and within the final gasps of their drowning breaths. The silence is chilling, but it does not last. As the surface shatters and the water boils, the dead are stitched and sewn together into a beast like nothing she has seen before.
Chapter 23: Underworld.
The only chapter with a different artist, a comic format to go with the insanity that Alex begins to lose as she faces the legions of the dead. In a desperate bid to contain the zombie outbreak, just a few hours before, the military detonated thousands of pounds of explosives, bringing down the buildings in an attempt to stop the horde advancing. What is left is a vast wasteland of concrete and iron, huge holes in the ground stacked with crawling sleepwalkers. As Alex navigates the unstable mess, she soon discovers that there was more to the mission that was once thought.
The cover you see is for the Kindle version, and we will use it for the Special Edition print - however, ALL THE PRINTED versions presented to Kickstarter backers will be ONE OFFS in appreciation. We will add extra artwork and only do a print for you guys - who knows, one day they might be a worth a small fortune.
If you donate £25 or over, contact us and will give you free membership on our website Tumour Beans where you can read all the latest graphic novels online, write posts and loads of other stuff.
What does the money pay for?
Recently, we worked on a project, a Manga project called “Annunaki and Ancient Aliens!” and although the Kickstart failed, the project’s artwork was very well received, so obviously, we want to hire the same artist we used for that project.
We also want to up the presentation, hopefully create it in hardback, with a glossy cover.
About the Book
“Just out of our sight, in the blind shadows of our own vision, lies the Fallen... and the worst game in biblical text is about to be fleshed!”
When Alexandra Beaumont is murdered at the roadside, she finds her body being rebuilt in the afterlife by a strange demon known only as the Mechanic. He puts together her broken bones and stitches her wounds with a scattering of ash, only to prepare her for her resurrection and entry into an ancient biblical game where she will represent the Earth realm in a deadly battle against the Fallen - a violent and minacious race of extra-dimensional demons that want to spread their undead armies over the Earth with humans as their primary source of vile and torturous entertainment.
As the world's secret societies and Governments gather for the invasion, and the New World Order prepares the lambs for their new evil gods, Alex has until sunrise to defeat the five Fallen challengers and win the game that could bring Hell upon the Earth. With her derelict and war ravaged city of Blackwater as the arena, Alexandra not only has to confront the millions of cadavers that have a rabid hunger for her flesh, she has to realise and accept the greatest revelation of them all – she is not who she used to be, and her new hungers and desires are much more terrifying.
Originally a web project, we wound in the story, rewriting, re-editing and re-fleshing the chapters, hitting the zombie culture with the classic representation of the "Zombie" - they DO NOT run, dig, think or communicate like recent incarnations. These zombies just hunt living flesh, then tear it apart without thought, guilt, nor any other emotion that binds humans to our own morality. Somewhere in the city where three-million people fell ill, is one woman - but whether she is alive or dead... is another question entirely.
Risks and challenges
I used to be a production manager of a studio in London, so I’m not a stranger to getting my hands dirty in getting the awards together and getting them out on schedule. ... all that being said, this being a "creator-owned" book, it needs the two of us to do just about everything on the side other than the actual pencil art, so because we are heavily relying on outside sources, it could be a problem – however, our chosen artists are very professional, very mainstream and already published, so again, we don’t see any problems in the future.
So if an emergency were to arise, it might cause a delay. But we don't anticipate that happening; moreover, we're already working full-time on our comics range --so it's looking good!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
