Who are we?
Hi! We're DeCadence a Cappella, a co-ed a cappella group from UC Berkeley, and we're recording a new CD this semester! It's going to feature some of our greatest arrangements over the past two years. We're planning to have it fully mixed, mastered, and clad in surprisingly-difficult-to-open-probably-industrial-strength plastic wrap by October 2012.
Unfortunately, recording, editing, and mixing a CD can be really expensive. So, we need your help! The money you donate will go toward the editing and mixing of our CD. The more money we raise, the better our CD is going to sound, so it's in your best interest to contribute now. This way, you get a better product in the end AND that warm fuzzy feeling of helping a student group!

Thank you so much for checking out our Kickstarter account. We hope you'll catch us singing every Wednesday at noon in front of Sather Gate!
Progress So Far
We will have at least nine songs on our CD:
- Love the Way You Lie / Dynamite / Teenage Dream Mashup - Sam Tsui
- Emotions - Mariah Carey
- Cry Me a River - Michael Buble
- Renegade - Styx
- Drumming Song - Florence + The Machine
- Gone - Kelly Clarkson
- Robots (Humans Are Dead) - Flight of the Conchords
- Forget You - Cee Lo Green
- Sparkling Diamonds - Nicole Kidman in Moulin Rouge!
As of the end of March, we're almost entirely done with the first 6 songs on our CD, so we're right on track to release next semester!
Producing an a cappella CD can be an expensive and time-consuming process. The process involves three main steps: recording, editing, and mixing. Right now, we're in the "recording" stage. Because we're poor college students, we're saving money on recording by using a blanket-filled dormroom closet with a microphone in lieu of a recording studio. (Fun Fact: it works just about as well, and with zero cost, AND you get to spend time in a blanket-filled closet!)
After recording each person individually on each song, we send our tracks off to an Editor to make them sound polished. The Editor is a master of an auditory analogue to PhotoShop, fixing up shaky notes and giving us a clean, crisp sound. After editing, our sonorous tracks are then giving to the Mixer. The Mixer artistically adjusts levels, adds effects, and turns a few dozen tracks of people singing into the aural experience that gently caresses the eardrums in the form of a new CD. The tactful editors Alex and Alexander at Plaid Productions will be diligently perfecting our sound. To learn more about them and hear some of their crystal clear samples, check them out at http://www.plaidacappella.com/. Also, we are proud to announce that the internationally-renowned a cappella specialist Bill Hare will be mixing and mastering DeCadence's new CD. You can check out how awesome Bill is at http://www.dyz.com/ (Spoiler Alert: He's pretty awesome.)
Your donations will go directly to editing and mixing time. The more time a mixer is given to work on a song, the more professional and nuanced it will be. Every donation is a valuable contribution to the quality of our CD. Thank you so much for your care and generosity!
