****Update****

all purchasers of the $20 level and beyond will be receiving a self contained mini adventure game exclusive to Kickstarter backers along with the early demo! This game will be short, but it'll be lots of fun.

Also, should this project not meet its funding goal, we will be sending everybody the comic anyway. If you pledged $20 or more, we will also send you the demo and mini game. We just want to express our gratitude to all of you who believe in us.

Greetings!

We're Facepuncher Worldwide. We're a team of three life-long friends, Alf the programmer, Rick the artist and Rodney - a musician and artist who is providing the music for CastleAbra as well as working on his own game. We are committed to making games that are not only fun, but stand out for their originality and humor. We don't feel that there are enough genuinely funny games out there and our goal is to make you crack up as you explore and adventure. 


We mostly want to make high quality adventure games for the time being. We feel this is the best genre for telling stories and creating characters. Adventure games are also great fodder for comedy. Walking into a new room and encountering a monster who's just looking at you in an attack position while you ponder your next move always seemed funny to us, even when the game designers were being serious! Our games will have have all the mystery, exploration and immersive stories of the great, old adventure games, while also gently satirizing them. We're excited about doing this, and hoping you kind souls would help us out.

About CastleAbra

CastleAbra is the first offering from Facepuncher Worldwide. It tells the tale of the clueless wizard Wizardo who is hopelessly in love with a beautiful, young Princess that is way out of his league! Desperate to escape the "friend zone" he does what any love-struck sociopath would do - imprison her and conduct a series of magical experiments to make her come around! You play the role of the noble warrior tasked with saving your beloved Princess. You infiltrate Wizardo's castle and befriend him, even offering relationship advice. All the while you work behind his back wrecking havoc and sabotaging his plans. The castle is filled with deadly traps and horrifying monsters. We promise you will die many, many times in this game. But the real drama comes from the uneasy tension between you and the wizard. "does he really think I'm his friend? Who does he think is ruining his traps and killing his monsters? Is he really that stupid? And who the hell is this Valentino character?

Ah yes. Valentino. The wizard's mysterious brother-in-law.You may have noticed the dapper, blonde man with the smoldering gaze in the trailer. We want to keep him under wraps for now, but we think your interactions with him will be a highlight of the game and possibly change your life!

Oh, and there's also a sweet, little octopus named Olive. Who is desperate to regain the love of her no-good, bad-boy lover Johnny Squid. They're involved in this somehow. Heartache seems to be the general theme of CastleAbra.

We really think the best way to get a sense of the game is to watch the two videos we've provided. Please check them out.

We are hoping to have 100 backgrounds for the final game. Right now we have about 70. We are planning to have the Mac and PC versions up first, but we want to put it on as many platforms as possible. Including mobile devices.

Why do we need your help?

We've been working on this game for a year and a half now. At first, we expected to make a cute, simple game that we could complete in a few short months. Over time, CastleAbra became increasingly more ambitious as the ideas continued to flow. For example, the game was never going to have an animated intro, then one day Rick saw the whole thing in his head and had to spend many extra weeks working around the clock to get it done. Similar time and effort will go into the ending as well other sequences in the game. What your support will buy us is simply time. Time to make this game as great as we think it will be. 

Several months ago we quit our day jobs to focus exclusively on the business of CastleAbra. That is how passionate we feel about it. This seemed like a great idea back when we felt we could finish everything in a few months. But with thousands of man-hours ahead of us and bills continuing to arrive, we are approaching panic time. Not that we're complaining. We know starting a business involves a great deal of sacrifice. We live off our savings and count our pennies. We're confident in ourselves, and with your help we know that we will succeed and make this game as grand as our ambitions.

Everything we receive over our requested amount will hopefully go towards much needed new equipment. The game is being drawn on a 5 year old iMac. It's a fine little computer but a little under powered to handle the complex animations we want.

We want you to know how truly grateful we are for any assistance we receive. And your support will not go unrewarded. We're offering some really cool stuff as our way of saying thank you. Not the least of which will be a copy of our game. An amazing and epic game that reached it's fullest potential only because of your help.

    Just 3 rules. I have to be able to complete it in 10 hours. It can't be too offensive and it is yours for non-commercial use. Other then that, go nuts!

    Do you want a portrait of yourself standing on a volcano clenching your oiled muscles with your sword held high above your head? Of course you do. Or maybe you just want a portrait of your dog. It's up to you. Use your imagination.

    Most of the backgrounds in the game took less than 10 hours to make, so you can have an idea of what I'm capable of. I'm no Frank Frazetta, but I will work hard to make you happy and include you in every step of the process.

    Know that I won't be able to start work on your painting until the game is done, and I'll start with the first people to contribute this amount. Please be patient.
