Bobblehead College Football
Bobblehead College Football is a new strategy football game coming to Facebook and iPad that puts you in total control of a college football program. Build your college the way you want; customize everything from your stadium and campus to your playbook and recruiting strategy, call your plays and lead your team to victory. Do you have what it takes to build the next great college dynasty!
In Bobblehead College Football you use your thriving campus to attract top-shelf recruits and train them into world-class athletes. Challenge other players and their teams to head-to-head matches or play against other players teams' AI coach in multiplayer mode. While the visual style is lighthearted and fun, underneath those bobbling heads is a complete football simulation which will test your play-calling mettle. At its core, Bobblehead College Football is all about strategy - call the right plays and use your powerups at just the right time to ensure you come out on top.
Winning gains you money and fans, which let you expand your campus and recruit new players. Just like in real college football, your athletes won’t be around forever, so you’ll need to focus on recruiting replacements and making sure that your team will be great season after season. Building your campus up will allow you to gain even more money and fans, attract more and better athletes, train them to ever-greater heights, and play more games.
How do I build a campus?
You start with the basics - a stadium, a coach’s office, and a recruiting center. You can choose your team name, colors and logo and your colors will be reflected in the stadium and other campus buildings.
The most important building on your campus, like in any football program, is the stadium. You’ll start with a simple field with a small bleacher stand, and grow it into a massive bowl. How big your stadium is determines everything else about your campus - how much you can upgrade other buildings, how many players you can have, what recruits are available and more. Before upgrading your stadium, make sure you're ready, every time you upgrade your competition level gets harder!
Just like in real life, though, stadium upgrades and all the other buildings don’t come cheap. You’ll need to build game day vendors and parking lots to gain “coins”, which you use to purchase and upgrade buildings.
In your recruiting center, you’ll be able to attract players from around the country to your team - but great players want to come to a great school with lots of fans. That’s why you’ll need to build press rooms, tailgate parties, and your own Hall of Fame to gain “fandom”, which you use to recruit players. The more fandom you have, the better the players you can recruit.
Now that you've recruited a team full of 5 stars you’ll need to train them. You'll need to build training fields, a weight room, athletic trainers, a film room, and many other facility upgrades to keep your players in top physical and mental condition. All these buildings can be upgraded over time to become even more effective.
You have full control over how you want to build your team - should you spend your hard earned coins on the Hall of Fame, gaining you more fandom, or is it better spent on upgrading your weight room, making your players stronger? Which players should you train, and what skills should you increase? Should you upgrade your stadium, gaining you access to even more buildings and upgrades and move up a league pitting you against a higher level of opponents?
Whatever choices you make, the result will be a top-shelf campus built to your exacting specifications.
How do I play a game of football?
Bobblehead College Football is first and foremost a football game! So, and once you’ve recruited your team you can challenge another player at any time, simply visit their campus and start a game. You can choose to play head-to-head against a live opponent, or you can play against another player’s team controlled by AI. Head-to-head matches have greater rewards but are more challenging.
The game itself has accelerated quarters which, including time skipped between plays, will result in a typical play time of about ten to twenty minutes. Before each play, you choose which play to run and which power-ups you want for that play. You can only take a limited number of power-ups into a game, so strategy is critical.
In Bobblehead College Football you are the coach; you call the plays, but you don’t control the players directly - the bobbleheads play out the plays by themselves. Your job is figuring out what your opponent is going to do and combat his every move with your own playcalling and power-up strategy.
Once the game is done, winners gain coins and fandom, while losers are sent packing empty-handed. The higher your stadium level the more coins and fandom you can gain. You also gain and lose “trophies” depending on whether you win or lose. Collecting trophies rank you against every other player in the Bobblehead College Football universe, with top players prominently displayed on the leaderboard.
Who is Longshot Games?
We’re an indie developer based in Austin, Texas and we love making games. We have a talented group of veteran developers who have experience working indie games as well as some of the biggest titles in the video game industry including EA's Madden Football and NCAA Football. We've found that the best teams are not only full of experienced and talented developers, but the whole team is passionate about the game they're making. And that pretty much sums up who we are: We are passionate college football fans who also love creating video game experiences for all types of players.
What can I do to help?
The game is almost done, but we need your help to finish it up as well as eventually make it available on iPhone and Android. Most of the game is a labor of love, but there’s some unavoidable costs involved, including sound, music, and software. We want to build a community of Bobblehead fans who can give us feedback on what’s working and what isn’t. Our beta testing period begins following the Kickstarter campaign, and we’re inviting all our Kickstarter backers to participate. This is not only a chance for you to get an early look at the next great football game, but to have a hand in designing it.
We’re working hard polishing the game and getting it ready for beta now, and we’ll have lots more to show you over the coming weeks, so stay tuned. Follow us on Twitter (@playlongshot) to make sure to catch all of our updates, and like us on Facebookto get the word out about Bobblehead College Football!
Risks and challenges
Since the game is close to finished, most of our remaining challenges are polish, bugs, and game balance. We also have to get our game through the Facebook and iOS certification processes, which is time-consuming. Also, of course, there is a ton of work not directly related to working on the game, such as marketing, managing a large beta test, setting up server infrastructure, and more. However, we have planned and budgeted time for all these challenges and believe they are well within our capabilities.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
