(NOTE: There is a typo in the "Estimated Delivery" date of the Pledge section. The actual delivery date is set for July 2020, not 2021.)

Tokyo Rose: Zero Hour is a proposed graphic novel based on the true story of Iva Toguri, a Japanese American from Los Angeles, California who visited distant relatives in Tokyo, Japan shortly before the attack on Pearl Harbor, that saw her country not only at odds with Japan, but with her family and herself.

While trapped in Japan, Iva fought the prejudice of Japanese society and it's government, who saw her as an enemy, as she was not willing to denounce her American citizenship and become a subject of the Empire of the Sun. She took a job with Radio Tokyo working in the propaganda department...where she soon became Tokyo Rose, the Siren of the Pacific, charged with demoralizing American troops!

But, did she?

Who was Tokyo Rose really? What did she stand for? Who did she support? Was she a traitor...or a hero?

In this proposed 75-page hardcover graphic novel, the answers to these questions will tell the dramatic tale of a woman who fought against all odds and how she went from an American Sweetheart to a "National Traitor" by being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

This is a story that needs no flourishes, and the creative team has worked tirelessly to research and develop Tokyo Rose: Zero Hour, relying on biographies written about Iva Toguri, the "Tokyo Rose" phenomenon, and of course the devastating effects of World War II on the Asian-American communities and the world at large.

The team is very mindful of the sensitive nature of the topic and the history, and we've worked effectively to assure that this is a book that will honor the memory of all those effected by the war, and the generations that have come since.

In a world that is still rife with misinformation, inequality and racial/gender prejudices, the tale of Tokyo Rose has never been more relevant than it is today. This story isn't just about an Asian American woman caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's the story of every American today who experiences or witnesses racial inequality, misrepresentation and gender bias. It's the story of an underdog who, despite everything working against them, struggles to survive and doesn't give up. It's the story of the best part of what is America.

We're looking to raise $7,500 for our Kickstarter. Along the side, you'll see our reward levels, which range from a small donation to a mighty package of specialized rewards. You can participate in any variety of ways, but the more you pledge, the quicker we get to our goal, and the greater the reward to you!

Whether you're able to support for $1 or $100 we'd love for you to share the campaign and talk about it with your friends as well. We are so grateful for your support. We cannot thank you enough for checking out our campaign.

We have some pretty extraordinary stretch goals lined up so let's get there as soon as possible! Each stretch goal achieved expands this epic adventure and the experience the backers will have with it.

The first stretch goal of $10,000 will see legendary letterer, Janice Chiang hand write the dialogue for our book. Janice is one of the first women letterers in the industry with over 30 years experience. She's worked on titles like Ghost Rider, Conan the Barbarian and Transformers! See the full list below:

This Kickstarter is aimed to help raise the funds to develop the 75-page graphic novel adaptation of Iva Toguri's wartime experience. Andre and Kate are looking to raise $7,500!

Tokyo Rose: Zero Hour is the joint effort of writer/artist team, Andre Frattino (Simon Says, A Land Remembered) and Kate Kasenow (Form of a Question, An Elegy for Amelia Johnson), who have joined forces to tell this exciting story in graphic novel form.

Andre, hails from Florida and has spent the majority of his comic career writing and illustrating tales focused on history, legends and folklore. Fresh from his 2017 successful Kickstarter, Simon Says: Nazi Hunter (coming out through Image Comics as a full feature graphic novel in Sept. 2019), Andre seeks to replicate that success in telling this exciting tale set on the other side of the world during World War II.

Kate, is from Indiana, the heartland of America. Her seasoned background in comics range from working with publishers like Archaia Entertainment, BOOM! Studios and Oni Press as an illustrator, to a stint editing comics for Comixology in New York City. Recently, she's worked with comic writer and "Jeopardy" contestant, Andrew Rostan on his memoir, Form of a Question.

We'll be working with Atheris Publishing on the first-edition Kickstarter copies of Tokyo Rose: Zero Hour. Atheris Publishing is a division of Atheris Entertainment, which has successfully funded three board game projects themselves (Cul-De-Sac Conquest, Mutant Crops and Supernatural Socks) and consulted on another successful board game project (Ore: The Mining Game). Atheris will be assisting with the marketing and community management of this campaign.

Assuming the campaign is successful, we hope to have the completed book in the hands of our backers by no later than July 2020, just in time to celebrate Iva's 104th Birthday! This gives us the time needed to make sure that the book is completed to the highest standards that history demands and our supporters expect...

Risks and challenges

Our team is incredibly well versed in producing products.

Andre and Kate have worked on several comic projects. Andre has graphic novels with Pineapple Press as well as Image Comics. Andre has also successfully funded and delivered a former Kickstarter project called Simon Says, which was recently picked up by Image Comics.

Additionally, Atheris Entertainment, has successfully funded and delivered three board game Kickstarter projects.

Though all projects have their risks we've done this all before and have done everything in our power to mitigate as many as possible.
