YOUNG SINGERS of Callanwolde is producing a CD to celebrate a legacy of
performing and education that has spanned more than 35 years. The recording
will highlight what ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS has known for years—that children are
capable of tremendous artistry.
THANKS FOR HELPING US REACH AND EXCEED OUR GOAL! WITH EACH DOLLAR PLEDGED BEYOND OUR GOAL, IT WILL ENSURE THE SUCCESS OF FUTURE RECORDINGS BY ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS OF CALLANWOLDE. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH, AND THANKS FOR GIVING!
Education and live musical performance are the centerpieces of our organization. Performing more than 40 concerts annually, ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS devotes almost all of its resources to weekly musical training of its singers, summer music camps, outreach, concert production, commissioning new music, and artist residencies. The Choirs are recorded, but most of our recordings are archival and live concert recordings intended only for in-house use.
What’s the plan?
Our 35th Anniversary brings a new path for the future.
- FOR NOW. You can help us raise $12,000 that will cover rentals, professional musician fees, mechanical licensing, professional sound engineer, editing, master, pressing, liner printing, and artwork for the current recording project. Recording 200 kids in 7 choirs is no small undertaking! We are raising the money through Kickstarter so that the Choir’s financial investment in quality live performance and education isn’t compromised
- FOR THE NEAR FUTURE. We will release our CD at the end of April 2012. Sales from the CD will go right back into our music education and outreach programs.
- FOR THE NEXT GENERATION. Part of the CD sales will be held aside as seed money for our next project so that regular recordings are part of the future, not just part of the “someday” wish list.
About the music
The purity of the child’s voice and honesty of expression is a fleeting and beautiful thing. Because we believe so much in the power of the young person’s voice, we are serious about music selection. Nothing dumbed down for these kids, nor their listeners.
The music on the CD is about past, present, and future all rolled into one. It includes Classical masterworks for young voices that have fed so many young musicians through the years, and music by contemporary composers that pushes their minds beyond the familiar into a dynamic world of sonic color. The music is eclectic in style and text, and it highlights one of the unique qualities of ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS—the ability to change vocal color and expression to meet the demands of the music. No one-size-fits-all sound in this Choir! The playlist is an eclectic mix of Classical masters, contemporary art music, and folk music from around the world sung in 5 different languages—Judeo-Spanish, Arabic, English, Bemba (Chibemba), and Brazilian Portuguese.
