I wrote a song called "Not My City Anymore" ... my sad nod to the cultural/economic cleanse we are experiencing in San Francisco. Please listen to the song in it's entirety right here: https://soundcloud.com/candace-roberts-3
Most of the footage for the music video has been shot and now we're in the editing phase. I'm collaborating with indie filmmaker, Danny Plotnick, who runs the University of San Francisco Film and Video Department. We're also thrilled to be working with cinematographer Damian Lucas, who runs Little Giant Lighting and Grip here in San Francisco. Lee-Wei Chao of Alonzo Lines Ballet provided choreography and Cody Caronna costumed us with the help of the A.C.T. Costume Shop.
The video takes place in a Gold Rush Era Saloon with saloon girls and bartenders, in period costume, who represent San Francisco or "Fran" as she is called in the song. Against that backdrop is the "Techie" character, a 20s something young man dressed in modern attire, busy at a table with all his gadgets and devices. "City Hall" is also a character comprised of 3 commissioners in black suits bowing down to Techie. Lastly there is a small character called the "Developer" in a hard hat and green suit.
We shot the video at the (new) Gold Dust Lounge down near Fisherman's Wharf. The Gold Dust has been extremely generous in the use of their space because they were recently evicted from their original 1933 location in Union Square to put in the chain clothing store "Express". So their story is our story.
Risks and challenges
We want this video to be nothing but top notch and so we've hired only the highest quality professionals. Now that the shooting portion is done ... our biggest hurdle is paying our production crew. It all costs money from renting lighting and camera equipment to paying the artists to editing the video and so we are seeking your support via this kickstarted campaign.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
