I love making marbles. Currently I am known for intricate patterns and designs done on the surface of a opaque marble. In the future I would like to expand my use of interior designs using more clear glass.  In recent exploration of new designs I have found that the quality and gathering process of  factory made soft glass rods leaves a lot to be desired. In order to obtain the quality and clarity I am looking for, I need to melt my own clear base glass. This project will fund the creation of a new line of work utilizing clear glass a base for more in depth in the designs. Here is a photo of some of the current floral work.

And here is a prototype of the new line I created to get ready for this project.

As you may be able to see in the photo, the clear glass base has some flaws in the clarity of the glass. In funding this project you will help bring this line to market with the best clear possible. In addition to practice and new equipment, some minor studio modifications will have to made.

Help me take soft glass marbles to the next level.!!!

Risks and challenges

The challenge , as with any new direction in the craft related arts is obtaining the skills and training to create a new design. As a former furnace glass worker, the new methods will essentially be a miniaturization of what I was trained to do. For 10 years I owned and operated a successful glass blowing studio, only to quit in order to raise my two small children. As they are getting older I am now challenging myself in the increasing hours available to work on artwork. This is simply the next goal and I want you to help me get there. The other current challenge is the upcoming summer months. Richmond Virginia is no place to be standing over an 1800 degree pot of molten glass. This is why the fulfillment date for the project is not until fall has fully set in.

These backers will receive one mini marble. I tend to make very few of these small detailed marbles. Due to the small size they are pretty tricky to get right. The smaller mass means they heat up and cool off much quicker, and these little suckers are hard to get perfectly round. I did want to add a lower cost reward for marble collectors or fans with smaller budgets. These will all be 1" or less. Please see update #3 for a picture of these guys.
