About this project
Stop. Right now. Look at yourself. Do you see what I see? I see someone that clearly knows what's up because simply by the act of you being here, right now, you are part of the Vitruvian Underground movement.
This isn't just about printing a 34 page, full color, all ages, self contained comic book that we have been working on for the last year in-between school and work (it mostly is). This is about launching an unstoppable force of graphic storytelling, the likes of which has definitely been seen before but is dearly missed.
Backing our project will make it possible for us to print 1000 copies of the first issue. That's the goal. That's the dream. Your pledges will be used to print this first issue, the costs of distribution, website, incentives, and shipping.Anything beyond that will go toward the printing of future issues.
“Woah there, hold on, FUTURE issues? I thought we were talking about the first issue?” That's what you're thinking. Well we have lofty ambitions, and have already begun work on the next two issues of this independent comic series. After we sell issue one in stores, at conventions, online, (and in dark alleys?), we have the second issue (tentatively titled: Testament NOW!), and the third issue (tentatively titled: Bola, King of the Monkeys), and then the FOURTH issue (definitely titled: How We Were Lost in War).
Every issue of Vitruvian Underground will be a self-contained story accompanied by a backup that thematically compliments the main story wherein we aim to tell classic feeling politically-charged science fiction stories with modern sensibilities.
The 22 page main story, “Issue One,” was written and colored by Ramon Villalobos and penciled, inked, and lettered by Craig Cermak. In this issue, Kid Vinci, Bola, Walt, Stampede, and Robot tackle their very first challenge as a rag tag team of superheroes: a threat to Earth that looks to completely wipe human kind off the face of the planet so that a new, possibly more peaceful and prosperous inhabitant can take its place. In the backup story, "To Earth, With Love", written by guest contributor Kris Krause and drawn by Villalobos, archaeologists in 2100 come across a shocking find!
Both of these stories are being published online as a webcomic because, really, the point of this is almost entirely so that people know about what we are doing, regardless of whether or not they pay for it. Hopefully you're thinking, “I don't care about reading your webcomic for free, I want to support two hardworking artists and another writer they got to do a back story for them!”
That's what you're going to do. We both know that. You've read this much! How can you turn away? NO! Don't press that backwards arrow on your browser! The fate of our comic book depends on you!
Note: HUGE thanks to Kalin Fields for creating the Vitruvian Underground video (You can check out her work here: http://sinistradesign.com/)
