We are creating a new product for both leisure and sport, not yet seen on the market, incorporating the benefits of a cross training workout with the joy of nature and the thrill of the fastest growing water sport - SUP. We call it AQUA ELLIPTICA.
A hybrid SUP (patent pending in both in utility and design) with a
unique design that allows it to be interchangeable and transforms into 3
different water sports from one basic innovative modular catamaran
style structure which combines pleasure, recreation, nature, and water
--: the best of all worlds.
Uriel Arad, an innovative inventor and the designer of this hybrid SUP,
has built a prototype which had a successful launch It has been shown
up and down the coast from Los Angeles to San Francisco and everyone
says it is "awesome" or "cool."
The Aqua Elliptica can be used on any open water - lakes,
rivers, canals, lagoons, marinas, bays, and even the ocean surf. We see this product being used by everyday people, sports
enthusiasts, to even those with arthritis or health and joint problems
for outdoor physical therapy. We've had interest from resorts for use to tour and glide around the water. We've also had inquiries from health experts for possible use with their patients as well. AND, we are also in development of an app that will track speed, time, distance, calories burned, as well as GPS, & RPM while you are using the Aqua Elliptica!
Uriel has been manufacturing customized catamaran style stand up paddle
boards since 2012. His boards are made of two pontoons, precision
machine cut, that are hand-shaped and finished. They are easy to
assemble and disassemble and come apart for easy storage and
They are attached by a middle platform which provides a
stable ride without losing speed and smooth paddling like the surf board
In May of 2013, while he was at the gym and using the elliptical, he came up with the concept and thought why not bring the elliptical out to the water. He had heard of the elliptical being transformed into a bike on land and thought he could merge his two enjoyments together -- Stand up Paddle on water and an elliptical around his design of a catamaran style board. He decided to try and put an elliptical in place of the platform. His development of this new water sport design came out of his passion and love for the sport and the Stand Up Paddle community.
Uriel began to work on the concept immediately searching and filing patents for the idea. The cost to build a prototype with carbon fiber, aluminum composite material, and kevlar would be exorbitant and he first wanted to see if the concept would work and what people would say about the idea. So he went about creating the first prototype with different parts of different elliptical machines. He already worked with EPS foam for the pontoons as he had made many catamaran SUP’s. He sketched, developing blueprint outlines, and 3D animation and drawings with different 3D computer designers. He also consulted with design and mechanic engineers from different companies that manufacture tooling, shafting, differential and propeller designs. He brought more people on board to be involved in the development of this project and they have devoted the past year to working with him on this project. The concept worked and AQUA ELLIPTICA was born.
Uriel has been a pilot and worked in the aviation industry and has the understanding of hydro-dynamic propulsion systems. He has incorporated a propeller system to this elliptical blueprint which is the most efficient way to move any watercraft.
But weight is a main issue and Aqua Elliptica needs to be built in the lightest manner possible of composite material. The material and molds needed to create a lighter weight, more efficient, and commercially viable product, is expensive. The cost of making the different molds run about $100k.
This is where we need your help and support to help us match our investment. We will use funds raised through this project to help bring the Aqua Elliptica to market. This campaign will allow us to complete our Aqua Elliptica with the proper material components. Our Kickstarter campaign will start in April.
By the end of May if fulfilled, we can then begin to make the molds and develop the parts from composite, carbon fiber, kevlar. We have two production facilities lined up in Utah and Southern California. The production run from start to finish is estimated to take about 90 days. The initial production could begin in July and be complete by September.
We need these funds to build and refine a lighter product that would make Aqua Elliptica a "walk-on-water" splash in the marketplace! Check us out at www.aquaelliptica.com.
Risks and challenges
Our project is a work in progress and we have taken all the necessary legal steps to protect our unique sports product. The original elliptical part of the prototype was made from various parts of already manufactured elliptical machines and bicycles. The hydro-dynamic propulsion design and flexible shaft were created to help propel the Aqua Elliptica in the water. Our Aqua Elliptica prototype was successful and well received but we need to make it lighter for transporting and develop a better gear system to get more speed in the water. Safety is an important component and has also been factored into the design.
