About this project
This film is about Bart Hickey, owner of a small auto repair shop outside of Chicago and all he wants to do is drive his 1969 Dodge Dart car at the Bonneville Salt Flats, a 30,000 acre area in Utah known for it's land speed records, where he could not hit anyone or anything... all we want to do is follow him across the country as he pursues this...
What's so special?
Bart Hickey has been blind since birth and each day is a testament that anyone can live out their dreams no matter the obstacle.
One dream remains.
With your help you will fund the documentary of Bart's dream as he travels across the country with his son Brendan on a road trip towing Bart's beloved 1969 Dodge Dart. Along the way, through good will and help from car enthusiasts, mechanics and strangers, they will finish making his baby road worthy and ready to race the Salt Flats of Utah with Bart behind the wheel for the greatest ride of his life.
Who does the money go to?
Every dollar you donate, other than Kickstarter’s fee will go directly to producing this film. Travel expenses, crew and equipment over multiple states, specialized transport equipment for the Dodge Dart. Incentives for those assisting Bart in bringing his car to road ready racing status. Permits, aerial support, medical support and emergency gear all become part of the bigger picture and we want to be able to compensate each and every service provided fairly and in a timely manner.
$20,000 seems like a low number for a road trip documentary with such a powerful final event to cover? If that's all you get will you be able to make the film you imagine.
It is low but we're prepared to go into production with that. It's the bare amount to get the story. We hope to raise at least 2 to 4 times that amount so we can throw the full weight of our experience, talent and equipment at this once in a lifetime event.
Everyone who donates at least $10 will receive blog and video updates from our production crew as Bart and his son journey on the ultimate road trip from Chicago to the Salt Flats in search of those who will help bring his Dodge Dart to life for one amazing ride.
When exactly does the production begin?
It really begins after we've met or exceeded our fundraising goal. Preproduction will involve scheduling dozens of people in multiple states and all necessary safety precautions on the final day at the Salt Flats.
Of course Day 1 focuses on Bart and his son Brendan as they depart on their journey from his auto repair shop in Alsip Illinois. We expect hundreds of fans there to send him off and hope that you enjoy that day following your much appreciated gifting.
Now that the film is funded, how long will it take to shoot and released?
As soon as our monetary goals have been exceeded we will plan the shoot to starting March of 2013 for a period of 2 weeks with the final video to premiere in May 2013 at an invitation only event based upon gifting amounts. We will make sure you know when it's in production and ready to release.

Can I increase my pledge once it’s been made?
YES! Once you donate to our campaign, you may want to change your incentive reward to a different one, or increase your pledge amount. To do so, go to Kickstarter and sign in. If you go to our campaign page, the green “Back This Project” button has been replaced with a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click it and you can enter a new amount, or choose a new incentive.
What happens if the money isn’t raised in time?
If our goal is not met or exceeded within 30 days the project is over. Your accounts will not be billed in the amount you gifted. We hope to raise substantially more but this goal is reachable and would allow us the opportunity to start.
Can we exceed the goal?
Yes and we have different production scenarios in place to utilize your funding with creative precision. A trip across America and capturing a never before seen event in the Salt Flats will take extraordinary resources. The more we raise the more we can do for Bart and those we hope to inspire with our film.
Thank you for being a part of our dream as well.
Risks and challenges
The challenges I see are finding the right mix of mechanics in small towns along the route that will be willing to work on the Dart to get it road worthy to drive on the Salt Flats. It's the filmmakers goal to develop relationships with Bart and his fellow mechanics that want to see Bart continue his journey and drive the Salt Flats.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
