This Project is an art piece that will be apart of the upcoming show at the Gowanus Ballroom in Brooklyn, To the stars on the wings of an eel

We are going to drop a baby grand piano onto a pyramid of 385 champagne glasses. The piano will be dropped from the approximate height of 60 feet. We are documenting the event with slow motion video as well as still photography and directional microphones.

This project has been on our minds for about a year now, but we had kind of abandoned it as being too ambitious. However, when our friend, who is curating this show, asked if we could do the piano drop piece we'd been talking about for ages we threw caution to the wind.

We figured that this type of action belongs entirely to the world of cartoons and dreams. However, we believe strongly that it is unjust to have something so potentially amazing and surreal as this trapped in the world of the cartoon. So we rushed in head first. Why should Wiley Coyote get to have all of the fun? The sound this instrument will make, has perhaps never been heard in real life, and will be so terrifying and utterly satisfying that it resonates with the deepest human impulses of desire and gratification.

There are some concepts that can be contained in writing and drawing, but there are others that are so big and so strange that they need to come to fruition and cross the boundary from the imagination into reality. This is one of those projects. Watching a piano being dropped from 60 feet onto something as pristine, delicate and decadent as a pyramid composed of champagne glasses is surely a remarkable experience.

We knew that it would cost some money to make this project happen but it turns out it is going to take significantly more than we anticipated to do it safely and to document it as well as we would like. We need to rent lights, cameras and mics as well as get film people to help us.  As you can see, film and video is not exactly our forte. We also need to buy polycarbonate and plywood to protect the equipment and more importantly the spectators. All of these costs stack up pretty quick. We are not asking for the projects full budget, we are just trying to subsidize the parts of the budget that have gone beyond what we expected.

This is the kind of thing that only happens once and it is important that it is done as well as possible. This is why we are reaching out to you. We want to thank everyone who is able to help us and our friends who have helped us so far. And hey, if you are not able to help financially, please consider passing this along.

*Just i case you were worried*

The piano we are using is old and falling apart and can no longer hold a tune. so please don't think that we are destroying a perfectly good instrument.
