An expansive new fantasy series, Hiraeth was written and created by Brent Hodges, featuring art and color from Peter Cacho and Gustavo Mendes.
Hiraeth centers around a group of strangers whose lives intertwine after they begin to see visions of an encroaching, lifeless void as it tries to swallow up the last known light in existence.
Trapped between colliding worlds, our protagonist Karina is one of many connected dreamers that will be tested beyond their limits to navigate the truth behinds the Gods responsible for their visions, their sins, and the fine line between good and evil – in a world filled with bloodshed, betrayal, magic and the need for redemption.
A country as vast in resources as it is hate and division, Limeira serves as a grim reminder of a wretched caste system that separates the wealthy from the underprivileged within the Parathion Empire.
At its center lies a prominent house known as the Lutherns - a vicious, influential family that rivals even the sway of the Emperor. Involved in numerous cases of kidnapping, extortion, and racketeering, its youngest son Danny Luthern runs the Commons with an iron fist - crushing anyone who stands in his way under the weight of his family name.
Dealing with flaring community tempers and strange visions she can’t explain, young Karina struggles to regain control of her mind after mythological dreams and a chance encounter with Danny at the local market leaves her fighting for her life; shaking her foundation - and that of her community's - to their cores...
Hiraeth’s tales are inspired by classical RPG/JRPG elements, a lost-art of storytelling that Sky Ark Comics and I absolutely love; blending harrowing action, a deep-seated medieval world, and a memorable ensemble cast of heartfelt characters.
While set in a fantasy world, the all too real emotions expressed in Hiraeth are anything but fiction. Comics are meant to be fun and exciting, but as creators we also believe they’re meant to be real - and that means not all superheroes wear capes and live plot-convenient lives. We want Hiraeth to find a home in anyone who knows what it's like to try and fail fighting the darkness of their painful memories alone.
And that's where you, the reader, come in. We have years' worth of material conceptualized, but we can't get there without your help. Each of you has your own story of pain, fear, or uncertainty... Your support allows us to create comics that tackle those unspoken fears, and give back the courageous journey involved when you put one foot in front of the other and soldier on – even when every instinct outside of your heart keeps telling you to quit.

U.S. Veteran and author/creator of Hiraeth, Brent is an older brother who loves torturing his siblings and has worked in-and-around the medical field for most of his life before becoming a writer. He spends most of his time muttering wild new ideas to himself, jamming out to Metallica, playing old JRPGs, and on his good days - screaming bloody murder at the the writing gods who constantly toy with him.
Peter is Hiraeth's line artist originating from the Philippines. His eastern art style caught our eye immediately, stemming from a wide range of influences by acclaimed artists like Sean Murphy, Katsuhiro Otomo, and Stuart Immonen. He got his start drawing in 2011 after watching frenzied shows like Yu Yu Hakasho and Dragon Ball, and hasn't let up since!
Gus-Mendes is Hiraeth's newly acquired phenomenal colorist. Since 2012 he's worked for various independent publishers, writers, and other artists all over the United States and Europe - graduating with a degree in visual arts. With just one look at his unique color pallets, it's quite easy to see why we wanted to work with him on such a challenging project!
Our published variant cover artist from San Pablo City, Brian's copic tones have been used on everything from commissioned works for Batman, Wonder Woman, Star Wars, Spiderman and even everyone's favorite Merc-with-a-Mouth, Deadpool! From sequential art to covers to even color, Balondo has a gift to be able to deliver on all three fronts!

Here’s a breakdown of our costs:
Fees (10% Kickstarter): $295
All additional funding over our goal will first cover the small amount we covered ourselves prior to launch and will also cover any additional stretch goals and merchandise needed. Once all the costs have been taken care of, whatever is left after we are fully funded will be used towards the production of future issues!
Risks and challenges
We've actually done this before! Our latest Kickstarter project, CAPSULE (https://goo.gl/zYIlJi) was successfully funded in just two weeks!
Having most of the production completed prior to the launch of the Kickstarter, this project is mostly just to finish funding the art we'll need and paying the printing costs.
Our greatest potential challenge could be the length of time it takes to get back the prints and then have them delivered around the world. We're working our tails off to get everything ready so we can get the rewards to our backers in a timely manner, and the less time we have to worry about making our goal - the earlier we can order the prints and the more time we have to devote to quality control, packaging, shipping!
Rest assured we will keep everyone updated throughout the fulfillment process. If you find yourself with any comments, questions, or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.
