Pongo is a 3D action platformer, published by Black Shell Media, that combines pogo stick jumps with strategic FPS combat!
About this project
Hey everybody! You may remember us from Overture, the 16-bit action-adventure roguelike! Thanks to the amazing generosity of the Kickstarter community, we managed to get over 150% funded! We went on to release Overture on Steam, and the community has been loving it!
Well, we are BACK, and this time with a different concept. Black Shell Media is working with Drixy Games, a small but very excited game studio, on their latest project—Pongo, the 3D pogo stick action platformer with a twist! The demo is available to download on itch.io, and we are running a Greenlight campaign (that needs YOUR help!)
Gameplay
Pongo is a 3D action platformer that combines pogo stick jumps with strategic FPS combat.
Grab your Pongo, a tool usable as either a pogo stick or a gun, to obliterate enemies and traverse the vast islands of Flubber. Balance rapid movement and high jumps with challenging combat, hordes of enemies, puzzles and traps at every turn.
Featuring over 45 challenging levels, charming 3D environments and an immersive original soundtrack, Pongo puts a new twist on classic platformer and shooter mechanics. Grab your Pongo and let the adventure begin!
The Team
We’ve been working closely with the talented team at Drixy Games: Fenner Stevens (Game designer extraordinaire), Ermal Ferati (Street name: The Wizard of Unity), and Shaqs Aki (Indie development’s very own Michelangelo.)
Fenner Stevens is an enthusiastic game designer, artist, and programmer. He has been thrilled to work as the game designer and concept artist for Pongo, crafting different mechanics and levels to keep the players interested. The second he first played Pongo, he fell in love with it. Ever since then, he has been working to give players the best possible experience enjoying Pongo!
Ermal Ferati is a programmer and the head of Drixy Games. He gathered this team because he felt like making cool and enjoyable games was impossible to do alone. With help from his teammates he desires to make awesome games which will be loved across the world, and he hopes Pongo becomes one of them!
Shaqs Aki is an artist, a modeler and a sculptor at Drixy Games. He likes to work fast and have fun while doing so. Working with his teammates made him love the job he does, and he hopes to keep doing it for the rest of his life. Working with Pongo has taught him a lot of things, like how to work hard and still have fun. These guys are passionate about their craft, and we are beyond excited to partner with them on Pongo!
Our Goals
So, the real question—why do we need your help for funding?
I’m happy to say that this project is a labor of love both for Drixy Games and Black Shell Media. There are just a few administrative and marketing costs that are going to prove tricky for us to cover ourselves. We need funding for...
- Mobile and tablet development
- Performance optimizations
- Soundtrack expansion
- Software licenses
- Bug testing
- Web hosting and domain names
It may not seem like a lot, but you’d be surprised how much some of these things cost. I’ll give you an example: we wanted to develop Overture in GameMaker: Studio (an amazing piece of software), but had to spend a whopping $800 on licensing!
I wish we could keep making Pongo without having to worry about costs, but in order for us to make the best game possible for you guys, we need a little help! Development-wise, everything is almost complete, but as far as things like performance optimization, licenses, and other needs go, we’ll need your extra push to give Pongo the love that it deserves. Every dollar goes towards marketing expenses and the cost of improving the game from a technical standpoint.
Thank You!
I sincerely hope you all believe in our project as much as we do. Please support us by backing Pongo! It would mean the world to us to see the game we’ve worked so hard on release on Steam and have people from all over the world play it. If you’re strapped for cash, please do share the campaign with a friend, like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, or just drop us a comment with some support! We really appreciate anything and everything you’re able to do to help us out!
Thank you so so much! We can’t wait to see your name credited as a Kickstarter backer!
P.S.—Got a spare “yes” vote laying around? Help Pongo get on Steam!
Risks and challenges
Black Shell Media has over two years of game production experience. We are working with Drixy Games, a new studio, and firmly believe in their vision. We form an excellent team and our partnership is going to be very fruitful! Both of us are super excited to be working on Pongo, and hope you all enjoy it!
