About this project
Modo: Ember's End
This will be a coveted collector's item: 72 full-colour pages of graphic novel goodness, wrapped in hardcover (so you can take it on the stagecoach with you). It's a stand-alone story: the further adventures of Modo, star of The Hunchback Assignments novels. He's been trained by the British to be a secret agent and is a hunchback with a special ability: he can change his shape to look like other people. He's awesome. And we're not just saying that!
The four bestselling novels in the series were the inspiration:
The Stretch Goals
We made our fundraising goal! Thanks! So here are the stretch goals:
Made it! $5000: 4 Modo trading cards with every physical order. They're gonna be wicked! Delivered by steam powered dragonflies.
$8000: 8 Modo trading cards with every physical order. Twice as wicked! Delivered by steam powered pterodactyl.
$10,000: Team Modo Stickers for every physical order! Delivered by a pegasus. Because, like, why not?
$1 Billion Dollars: an airship for every household. Delivered by…well, it'll deliver itself.
See the characters come to life in a full colour graphic novel. Modo and his fellow agent, Octavia, find themselves in the Wild West.
They stumble across the town of Ember's End, built by the mad scientist Ebenezer Ember, who has vanished but has left behind his beguiling daughter.
There's a rumour that Ebenezer has invented a device that will end all wars. This has brought the mercenary, Ogden Bull, to town. It becomes a race to find the device and to see who will use it first...
Think: action, over-the-top adventure, a huge dollop of fantastical fun and enough humour to tickle your innards.
Arthur Slade is the author of seventeen bestselling novels (including Dust, Jolted and The Hunchback Assignments) and Hallowed Knight, a four-part comic book series. His writing has won numerous awards including the Governor General's Award (Canada) and Le Grande Priz L'imaginaire (France).

The Great News is:
We raised most of the money needed to print this book in a previous crowdfunding campaign. It will be printed! But when we looked at our printing options we realized we wanted to make this book absolutely beautiful. So we're only looking for about $2000 greenbacks to up the printing ante. It's gonna look real purrrty. More importantly, we have several awesome stretch rewards in mind should we surpass our funding goal. Will it be buttons? T-shirts? Airships for everyone? Stay tuned.
It's been our longstanding dream to create a graphic novel inspired by The Hunchback Assignments. Now you can be a part of that dream. And pick up some cool swag too.

Risks and challenges
There are always risks creating a work of art, but we're at the half way mark of developing the book and already have the majority of our funding. There is quite a lot of detailed planning (and artwork) yet to do, so there could be delays. We feel confident that we'll tackle any problems that come our way in time to have the book out by March of 2014.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
