My name is Mike Ross and I am looking to raise $3200 to build 50 or more urns for the Unclaimed Veterans program at the Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, Washington. This project all began with a story I saw on the local news in 2012. There are unclaimed cremains at funeral homes, crematories, and a number of places. The names are researched by the Veterans Cemetery to see if they are vets. If it turns out they are veterans, the cremains are picked up by the cemetery. Then they have a ceremony with honors, where they are placed in the cremation wall. The news report I saw showed the remains being placed in the wall in plastic bags, cardboard boxes, and plastic containers. When I saw this I thought they deserved better, so I made an urn from Purple Heart wood. I took it to the cemetery and asked if they would take it as a donation to use for these Veterans. They said yes! I ended up building 50 urns that year. The number of urns needed over the past three years has been averaging 50, so I will build 50 or more for the ceremony in September. https://sway.com/xIA60QR0EgrRAjcT See www.veteranurnswa.com for more information. If you want to sponsor one urn, the cost is approximately $50 for the material. However, I would appreciate any donation you are able to make. Once the goal is met the extra will go to the next group of urns. Thank you so much for your support.
Risks and challenges
The only risk I have is running out of purple heart wood, but I have more than one outlet for purchasing. The challenge is the time needed to build these urns, so I begin working on them in the spring for the fall ceremony.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
