The Patent Pending GeoOrbital wheel is an evolution of the orbital wheel (the wheels on the TRON Motorcycles). The GeoOrbital wheel replaces a standard bicycle front wheel to turn your bike into a powerful electric bike in under 60 seconds.
The GeoOrbital wheel takes under 60 seconds and no tools to install and is built to last. Everything needed to power your bike is included in the wheel!
The GeoOrbital wheel is compatible with nearly every bicycle. We have tested it on hundreds of bikes of all different styles from all different eras. The wheel comes in 2 sizes to cover over 95% of all adult sized bicycles. If your bike has a 26in, or 700c (also compatible with 28in and 29in) front wheel and uses rim brakes, the GeoOrbital wheel fits!
The GeoOrbital wheel is by far the easiest way to add electric power to your bike. The only part that isn’t in the wheel itself is a simple thumb activated throttle, which is easily clipped onto your handlebar.
Sometimes you just need the speed. Whether you need to accelerate faster than cars at an intersection or just want to get home after work, our class leading 500W Brushless DC motor will get you to 20 miles per hour in just 6 seconds and you can always pedal to go even faster.
We use the highest quality Panasonic 36V removable Lithium-Ion battery with a pedal assisted range of up to 50 miles per-battery (up to a 30 mile range for the 26 inch wheel). With little to no pedaling you will go about 20 miles on a single battery (12 miles for the 26 inch wheel). The more you choose to pedal the more range you can expect, and you can always take a spare battery with you for longer rides.
Commute on your bike, on your own schedule and without exerting more energy then you see fit. No more traffic. No more looking for parking or waiting for the bus - Plus, because the GeoOrbital wheel when installed on a bicycle is still considered a bicycle*, there’s no need for insurance, registration, or even a license. Getting around by bike is better for you and for the environment, not to mention it's a ton of fun!

Sometimes you just need all-wheel drive. Just like being in a car with all-wheel drive you have a lot more stability and control in harsh environments. The GeoOrbital wheel performs great in all weather conditions but if you pedal while using the wheel you will have all-wheel drive when you need it most.
The GeoOrbital wheel comes with a flat-proof solid foam tire, so you never have to worry about getting a flat or even checking tire pressure.
By using the latest hi-density foam technology the tires act and weigh the same as a traditional bike tire, but you will never get a flat. Never!
With our built in USB outlet you can charge your phone, bike lights, or even a speaker on the go. Remove the battery from the wheel to have a massive portable power bank to take with you. It's enough portable power to take for a day at the beach.
We have been developing and testing our GeoOrbital wheel prototypes both in the shop and on all types of city streets. We reduced the weight, part count, and cost in half, while greatly increasing safety and reliability. Based on user feedback we doubled the motor power, made the battery removable and lockable, added a USB outlet, and modified each generation so that they would be easier and more universal to install.
We've come a long way and made huge technical strides in the past 18 months, with each new generation learning from it's predecessors and the hundreds of test riders and beta testers generous enough to share their thoughts. What we ended up with is the easiest and most reliable way to turn your bike electric.
At the core there are 3 of us - we are rocket scientists, inventors, entrepreneurs, and engineering experts. We have built spacecraft with SpaceX, built electric vehicles with Ford and built micro-businesses with the Peace Corps. We also love to ride all different types of bikes - road bikes, electric bikes, mountain bikes, 29er's, trikes, hybrids, and even a Mini-Penny Farthing.
Having long standing ties in the heart of Cambridge, MA and being based only blocks away from MIT and Harvard University, we are very lucky to have the support and guidance of top experts in innovation, supply chain management, manufacturing, design, electric vehicles and cycling. In fact everyone that you saw in our video is helping us bring the GeoOrbital wheel to market. We are very lucky to have the support of so many awesome people!
The wheel was invented in Cambridge and is built locally in New England in partnership with local contract manufacturers and part vendors. All the structural components are made in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
Keeping our manufacturing local allows us to use the latest technologies and have the highest standards for precision and craftsmanship. We are proud to support our community while delivering a quality product.
If the total funds raised by the end of our campaign exceed the below targets, we will offer the corresponding additional reward for each wheel purchased.
Risks and challenges
Creating a new product is inherently risky, with unseen challenges that inevitably spring up over the course of development. We have been testing and iterating for close to 2 years, with multiple generations of prototypes, but unforeseen challenges might surface that can create delays. A large order will also stress our supply chain and although we work with established contract manufactures and part producers there is always a chance that something might go wrong. However, we are an experienced team and we’re using industry standard technology and processes. We’re confident we can address any issues as they come up and have built redundancies in our supply chain.
The technology works, we have put thousands of miles on our prototype wheels and every small design change we make undergoes extensive testing. We have a process in place and will only ship wheels when they meet our standards of quality. We aim to deliver wheels much sooner then 6 months after the campaign, but it is possible that we will have unforeseen delays. Bringing such a new technology to market is an ambitious undertaking, and we hope that we can do this together… with you.

We managed to attract a good deal of attention over the past year and have had many requests from prospective customers to pre-order the wheel. To keep costs down, while producing a quality product, we wanted to take pre-orders during a set period of time and place a large order with our vendors. This Kickstarter is also a way for us to build a community and get the wheel into the hands of early adopters – at a big discount!
An Orbital wheel is a wheel with no center – it “orbits” around an empty area, rather than spinning as a result of being connected to a “hub.” For example have you seen the movie TRON? The wheels on those motorcycles are examples of Orbital Wheels (or Hubless wheels and Centerless wheels). The GeoOrbital wheel is an evolution of the Orbital wheel platform, where instead of orbiting around an empty space, the center of the wheel contains components that make the wheel function as an “all-in-one” vehicle propulsion system. We call this central mass a “Geo.”
As silly as it sounds that is what we did, but we did it for a reason. The GeoOrbital wheel platform allows us to integrate an almost limitless amount of components into the wheel itself. Because the wheel doesn’t spin we are able to integrate motors, batteries, electronics, headlights, USB charging ports, storage compartments, and many other components that it would not be possible to build into a traditional spoked wheel.
There are several reasons that we chose to make the GeoOrbital a front wheel application.
• Ease of Installation – it takes under 1 minute and no tools to install.
• Ease of Replacement – when you choose to put your spoked wheel back on it takes seconds to make the switch.
• Compatibility - it works with a much greater range of bikes than a rear wheel replacement, supporting any amount of bike speeds, transmission components, “in-hub” brakes, fork sizes and bike chain technologies.
•All Wheel Drive – because the GeoOrbital wheel doesn’t interfere with your bike’s chain or rear wheel, you can get all-wheel-drive by using the throttle while pedaling.
The GeoOrbital wheels are universally compatible with rim brake bikes across the wheel sizes that we support.
Our current models do not support disc brakes, but we plan to offer this in the future!
Not really. Since the weight of the GeoOrbital wheel isn’t spinning it has the same effect as a saddle bag. We also engineered the weight to be low and centralized along the fork so that the ride feels smooth and natural.
Yes, absolutely. The GeoOrbital wheel can be used as an assist while going up hills or when you get tired, or as a replacement for pedaling altogether. It’s completely up to you how and when you use it.
Absolutely not. You can simply pedal like you normally would on a bicycle.
Since the battery is easily removable and replaceable we offer additional battery packs to extend the range.
We specifically designed the GeoOrbital wheel to be secured using standard bike locks. The battery locks to the wheel with the same key that turns the wheel on. If you are especially concerned about security you can remove your wheel in under 30 seconds and take it with you.
This is a big part of the logic behind the GeoOrbital wheel. If you want to pedal for fun or exercise you can simply remove the GeoOrbital wheel and swap your spoked wheel back on. In a few seconds you’ll be back to your 100% manual bicycle. You can have your favorite bike set up just the way you like it. When you want it to be electric, it is, when you don’t, its not.
We designed the GeoOrbital wheel to be fast and easy to install. It takes a typical brand new user less than 2 minutes and no tools to install for the first time. After the first few times replacing the wheel takes about 30 seconds.
If you have an adult-size bike without disc brakes – then YES! We have successfully tested the GeoOrbital Wheel on hundreds of different 26 inch, 28 inch, 29 inch and 700c bicycles found in both specialty and big box stores. We have tested the GeoOrbital wheel on bikes ranging in price from $50 to over $5,000 – from bikes made in the 1800s to those that just came out. Road bikes, hybrid bikes, mountain bikes, trikes, recumbent’s, folding bikes and kick-bikes and even mini penny farthings work great with the GeoOrbital wheel.
Sure. If you are looking for exercise you can combine pedaling and motor power. We have often found that people pedal out of habit even when operating in all electric mode. We call this added benefit “Accidental Exercise.” We have also found that people will ride to work under mostly electric power (to avoid sweating) and then pedal vigorously going home – for exercise.
Yes, absolutely. The GeoOrbital wheel can be used as an assist while going up hills or when you get tired, or as a replacement for pedaling altogether.
All GeoOrbital Wheels have regenerative capability built in by default. Because of this feature there is a slight resistance when pedaling alone. If you are sensitive to any level of resistance you may be happier installing your wheel on a bike with multiple speeds. Lower gears will minimize the resistance you feel pedaling during the times you are not using any electric power. Keep in mind you may choose to always use the throttle when you ride, and not feel any resistance at all!
Yes, our electric wheels have regenerative braking built in standard, whenever you are moving but not using the battery. Enjoy the free power!

We will deliver your wheel within 6 months from the date of the completion of this campaign.
YES, but please check your local transportation laws before pre-ordering. eBike laws differ greatly from country to country and even from city to city. This GeoOrbital wheel is a U.S.A. domestic model.
At the end of the campaign we will send a notice to all of our backers offering the purchase of additional batteries and chargers. We kept it off the tier list/backer kits because we're not sure the price of this yet. It really depends on the volume of orders we get. Certainly the extra battery will be under $200, though.
Regular maintenance is not required. This is the beauty of brush-less electric motors and sealed bearings! We've got prototypes with 1,000+ miles on them and the most we've done is wipe them down now and then to keep them looking pretty.
The foam tires are one of our favorite features of the GeoOrbital wheel! They have been tested to last 5,000 to 10,000 miles depending on use. If it ever does wear-out or if you find a way to destroy it, the rim can be reused and a new tire put on. We plan to offer replacement tires through our website in the future.
Although they might look it from the outside these are not the rubber tires form days past. Our tires are made from a hi-density foam developed and Made in USA. The manufacturer we chose has 60 years of mold making and plastics expertise and developed a proprietary formula for our tires that make them the best on the market for quality, wear and tear, and performance.
With our solid-foam tires, you never have to worry about a flat again, and without any sacrifices in performance and weight.
All the components including the electronics are water resistant and we've tested the GeoOrbital wheel heavily in rain/snow, as well as dirt, grass and gravel. Because of the front wheel design, you can also get all-wheel drive if you pedal along with the motor, giving you increased traction on slippery roads. At the end of our Kickstarter campaign we will send a survey to all of our backers asking you what size and color you would like. If you ordered more than one wheel, you will be able to specify this for each wheel separately.
