One of Nnamdi's greatest talents is his ability to create and express human emotions in his works of art. In his sculptures he focuses on the positive in humanity (the beauty and nobility of the human soul); thus, his pieces exude the human emotions of love, peace, serenity, hope, etc. Because his ideas come from deep within, and he expresses them with honesty, each piece is unique and true to his own style of sculpting. However, the forms are simplified, and not contrived, allowing the viewer to easily relate to the piece.
In his own words, "Everyday I wake up and thank God that I am an artist. I have realized that it is the human soul that captivates me, and it is the nobility in humanity that I seek to express in my work. These large, abundant forms in my sculpture become an edifice, that houses the noble and majestic spirit of man or woman. I also use these round forms to create a softness and grace in the disposition of my figures. Creating is something I love to do, it is something that comes straight from my heart."
Nnamdi was commissioned to enlarge one of his popular pieces "Friends" to a monumental size of 66"h x 96"w x 48"d.
After two years of working on this piece, the first bronze casting of the sculpture was installed at the corner of 5th Avenue and 120th Street in Harlem, NY. Now, for ArtPrize, an international competition in Grand Rapids, MI, he is making the second bronze casting of this sculpture.
Most of the cost is related to the work done at the bronze foundry. The break down of all his expense are approximately as follows:
Rough Casting - $14,800
Metal Chasing - $7,900
Patination - $1,000
Shipping/Installation - $3,500
Miscellaneous - $1,500
Nnamdi's feels a calling to be an artist, and his grand desire is to place his works worldwide, in his own words, "to populate the world with his sculptures!" He wants his pieces to instill hope where there has been devastation, to inspire peace where there has been war, to give comfort where there is loneliness or sickness, to even encourage togetherness and friendship in our communities, and most importantly, to remind people of their common humanity.
