1950's Rockabilly Hall of Fame artist, Art Adams recorded two very collectable 45s at Cherry Records. Prior to his 1959 Cherry recording in Nashville, Art took several songs to Sun Records and met with Jack Clement. Jack listened to Art's songs, liked what he heard and told Art to write some uptempo songs for Sam Phillips and come back.
In 2016, Art finally went back to Sun to record. He took his band Tim Gibson (guitar), Mark Cutsinger (drums), Michael Strauss(upright bass) and Sarah Damon(vocals) to Memphis for an old school recording session. Curry Weber engineered and mixed the live session using original reconditioned vintage gear.
For anyone who has every been to Sun Studio, the building has an overwhelming rock and roll emotional impact. Recording at Sun with an original rockabilly artist from the 50s was a mystical experience.
After the recording session, we knew the songs had to be released on vinyl 45 as a tribute to Art's original trip to Sun. We want to include 7 songs on three discs. The first 45 has new Rock'n'Roll versions of the original country songs Art took to Sun. The second 45 has two new unreleased songs. The third 45 contains a song written about the original trip and a popular live song Art does as a duet with Sarah Damon.
We've spoken to several record companies and they all told us that a 45 box set was not economically feasible. We're doing the Kickstarter project to give our fans a chance to pre-order an autographed copy of the Memphis Dream box set and help realize Art's original dream to record a record at Sun.
The band has paid for the recording cost and are looking to raise money to cover the production costs. The current plan is to press 500 box sets which will cost: $3000 pressing + $1000 packaging = $4000 total.
We hope to ship the box set in May 2017.
