The state of North Dakota has one of the fastest growing populations in the United States. Astounding, considering the state has recorded a wind chill of -100 degrees in winter--a fact that might make the state unlivable if it weren't for the massive size of the Bakken Oil Shale underground, which could be the size of France. Small towns like Williston, ND are being swept up in the Next Great Oil Boom; the problem: men living in massive "man camps" are encroaching on North Dakota's isolated communities. Crime rates have increased. And some of the men--making up to $100,000 a year--are spending their money at bars and strip clubs (a strip club on the edge of Williston has girls from around the world making more money than they would annually in Las Vegas).
All of this activity is setting the stage for conflict, a damn good story, and more characters than the whole of the Looney Tunes canon. We want to explore the towns that have been affected by this boom.
With your kind patronage Eric and Chris will be able to purchase the fine materials the zine demands/requires, help with travel, accommodations, and getting out of tricky situations in North Dakota.
