It's time for a new gaming convention experience down south!
We feel that there needs to be more representation for tabletop games in the South. We have events for science fiction and anime stuff all over the state it seems. When it comes to tabletop games though, we have a tournament here or there, but most events are highly specialized.
Even the conventions that host a variety of tabletop games seem to focus on one aspect or the other, card games, board games, or miniatures games. We want to present them all well and fairly under one roof. Don't get us wrong. There are a few good ones and we've taken the time to learn from them. We just think there should be MORE good ones :)
We've got that in spades. Decades of retail experience handling sales. Decades of experience organizing and running events. And decades of experience working for and with conventions. We're already working on a schedule of events as more companies come on board and we should have the website live before the close of this campaign.
We have the benefit of seeing the game industry from all angles. We're able to use the information and skills that we've acquired to bring you a better all around gaming experience.
Waco might seem like an odd location, but it's nearly the perfect spot. It's reasonable drive from most major cities in in the region: Dallas (1.5 hours), Austin (1.5 hours), San Antonio (3), Houston (3), Abilene (3), Lubbock (6), Oklahoma City (4), Tulsa (6), Little Rock (6), New Orleans (8), and Shreveport (4). And if you don't want to drive, we've got a good airport here too.
The Waco Convention Center is newly renovated. It's a great facility. It's roomy, presentable, and has all the modern conveniences we could want for a gaming convention. And there's plenty of public parking. The parking is even FREE. And that's both at the convention center AND the airport.
Everyone is welcoming us with open arms. They are on board with providing new forms of entertainment. They believe in increasing the diversity of entertainment options. And more importantly, they believe in what we're trying to achieve with this event.
We're working with all the major game companies to bring events to this convention. There will be some qualifier events. There will be some cash prizes. We'll have trophies to hand out. Lots of contests and freebies. We've got all kinds of things lined up.
We have so many things planned and we're working overtime behind the scenes to get even more support from across the industry. Speaking of which, we're even going to try and do something a little different. We're trying to get our guests of honor to be involved in the gaming so attendees can interact with them hands on. We want them to play games, and be social with everyone. After all, an autograph is neat, but a gaming experience is much more awesome :)
We're going to have events from all the major categories from all the major games. Magic the Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh, Dungeons & Dragons, Warmachine, Malifaux, Pathfinder, Heroclix, piles of board games, even some disc golf stuff and more!
There will be a board game library with games available for rental throughout the weekend. There will be a delear's room with a strong variety of dealers. There will even be a charity auction to benefit two charities: a local food bank and a no-kill animal shelter.
Oh, and wait til you see some of the stretch goals. We've got some good stuff lined up which includes costume contests, adding an extra day to the event, an anime room, a game-a-week giveaway, and a falconry presentation (among other things)!
And as an added bonus, our Kickstarter supporters will get a full month lead on reserving hotel rooms at the discounted room rate.
Now we just need your support.
It's also about more than just having fun. We want to keep raising awareness of the tabletop gaming hobby and creating positive exposure whenever we can. Strong, well organized events can go a long way toward keeping the popularity of our favorite games and hobbies high.
We're dedicated to the project for the long haul. We don't want this to be a one and done event. We've already began talking with the City of Waco about future events. If this one is successful, the sky's the limit on what we can do for future conventions in Texas.
Serious. Dedicated. Experienced. Gamers. That's what we've got here. We've also got a reputation to uphold as we run a retail business as well. There's no fear of us taking the money and running. We're going to put our best efforts behind this funding.
We also have a Facebook page running: http://www.facebook.com/Wacogamecon
We already have early commitments from the following companies:
Days of Wonder
Fantasy Flight Games
Rio Grande Games
Steve Jackson Games
Wizards of the Coast

Risks and challenges
We deal in business every day at the retail level. We also do a fair bit of shipping through online sales. We know how to handle the shipping of products. We've also got a large group of people that helps us organize events on a regular basis.
Shipping and organization will be the largest hurdles for this kickstarter. The shipping is easily handled. And we've already got a crew of people in place to help with organization. We even have a strong web person updating regularly as things get leveled out.
We'll do everything we can to stay on top of it and keep each one of you updated as we move forward. We want this to be the best all around gaming experience for every attendee, so that this becomes a yearly event.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
We will have 9-12 vendors at the event. We are working to keep dealer diversity, so there won't be more than two dealers selling any similar products if we can avoid it. The dealers that pledge via Kickstarter get slightly larger space and will get the best locations in the room.
Add $25 to your pledge. And the end the campaign we'll send out a survey. Just let us know that the extra $25 was for an additional ticket and the name of the person that ticket is for.
Yes. Simply pick the level you want for yourself. Then figure out what level you want for the other person and add that amount to your pledge. At the end of the campaign, we'll send out a survey in which you can then tell us what the extra pledge amount was for and who it was for.
