Dear funder. Sly Guitar is an album release project by UK based composer/guitarist John Ellis. He has worked with major names in UK music including Peter Gabriel, The Stranglers, Peter Hammill, The Vibrators, Judge Smith and many more.
The album consists of a number of guitar based instrumentals. John's interest in technology is combined with traditional guitar skills across a number of constructed pieces. The album features several tracks that are improvised, one-take recordings featuring the use of ebow, slide, looper, laptop computer etc.
The money raised will be used to take this project to the final stage. The music is already produced, so the money will be spent on CD manufacture, packaging and artwork creation. After this stage the album will be made available to the public on John's own label (Chanoyu Records). Funding that is not spent on manufacture will be spent on marketing, including the possibility of some live performances to promote the album.
Profits from album sales will be ploughed back into further releases of John's songs and instrumentals, one of which will be a release of Wabi Sabi 21©, an album of electronic music inspired by Chanoyu, the Japanese Tea Ceremony.
Have you seen the video? It has been created by John Ellis for "Crow on a Dying Dog", one of the tracks on Sly Guitar. And can you tell what the three objects are in the project photo?
Risks and challenges
The nice thing about this project is that the core of the job is done. The tracks are finished, so now it's a question of creating a package that does justice to the music. If the funding is achieved there is no risk to the successful outcome of the project.
However, the challenge will be to get it heard by the wider community. Any money not used for manufacture will be put into a marketing strategy that includes live performance, press reviews, online marketing, YouTube videos etc.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
