Haggadah Companion, My Second Book

December and January were fun. Copies of Jewish Prayers of Hope and Healing arrived in Jerusalem. I finished work on another book. I left Israel for three weeks in the U.S. to see my family and for a variety of book events.

Your encouragement and enthusiasm has led me to publish a second book focused on Passover called Haggadah Companion: Meditations and Readings. It’s now available on Amazon and B&N.

The Haggadah Companion includes 18 readings, expanding upon key themes and moments in the seder. The topics range from freedom to social justice, from praise to redemption, from Egypt to Jerusalem. It includes a brief “Seder Overview” suggesting specific spots where the readings can be used, while walking you through the high points of the seder.

There are two discounted offers exclusively available on my web site. The first: six copies of the Haggadah Companion so you can have multiple copies available at your seder or give copies as gifts to either your seder guests or hosts. There’s also the opportunity to get one copy of the Haggadah Companion along with a copy of Jewish Prayers of Hope and Healing at a combined price.

Thanks for your ongoing interest in my work. I'm still working to get the last of the Kickstarter rewards delivered. Meanwhile, I have more books planned. I’ll keep you informed. I look forward to hearing from you – and learning from you – along the way.

Touching Message / Project Update

The “Big Update:” I’m still anxiously awaiting the delivery of books to Israel. More on that in a minute.

Here’s a touching story. Last week the following comment appeared on my website on a prayer called “When a High-Risk Pregnancy is Confirmed (women).” The prayer appears in Jewish Prayers of Hope and Healing.

This is why I write. This is why we pray. Thanks again for supporting my work.

Here’s an update on the project: As of now, everyone who’s responded to the information survey should have received your book, books or other rewards, with two exceptions: the people who live in Israel and those of you whose recognition gift is one of the limited-edition signed copies. Once my shipment arrives, I’ll run around Jerusalem delivering books and I’ll create the limited editions and send them off to you. I need my shipment to make that happen. (Sigh!) Thanks for your patience. The 8” x 10” color prints of the cover photo should begin shipping next week to those who supported at that level.

If you don’t have your book, odds are that you haven’t sent back the information request (survey) to Kickstarter. Several of my backers thought they sent the survey but never actually hit the submit button. So, if you think you’ve submitted, but have not received a book, please double-check on Kickstarter that you’ve sent the information. As a reminder, neither Kickstarter nor Amazon Payments share your address. The only way I can send you a book is with that survey information. If you have any questions, or did not receive your book, please send me a private message via Kickstarter.

Wouldn't today be a great day to order another copy of Jewish Prayers of Hope and Healing as a gift for someone in need of healing? Or for that person for whom you forgot a Hanukkah, Christmas or Kwanzaa gift? Or as a thank you to your rabbi, priest or minister? The gift of prayer. Good gift.

Blessings from Jerusalem,

Getting Close

Hi Kickstarter Supporters

I received the printer’s proof of the book on Tuesday. It looks great. The cover image pops off of the page. The pages look quite nice, but because of a concern I have about the internal print quality, I’ve asked for another proof. The printer will run off another copy of the book and will recheck the quality. That’s scheduled for Monday. The plan is to begin sending out books next week, assuming the printing passes this additional quality check. In the meanwhile, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me directly or via Kickstarter. Thanks again for your support. Thanks for hanging in here with the delay.

Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Hanukkah,

Good News and a Setback

There’s good news and a setback.

The Jerusalem Post wrote about the book on Friday, saying "the prayers in Jewish Prayers of Hope and Healing are soulful and meticulously crafted...” (The Jerusalem Post Magazine, Nov. 15, 2013, p. 40.) Since the online version is only available to subscribers (, I’m sharing page scans here.

On Friday I also received the poster of “Whispered Prayer.” Jerusalem scribe Jamie Shear designed this lovely gift for my supporters. Please visit his website at Here’s a preview of a section of the poster.

The setback is that my printer hasn’t yet shipped a physical proof of the book. Obviously I need to see the proof before I allow printing to begin. My hope is that you’ll have books in your hands by mid-December. (The J-Post article says that the book will be available in April, 2014, because that’s when it’ll be in bookstores. You’ll have your copies long before then.)

I apologize for the delay. I’ll keep you posted. Thanks again for your support. Thanks for hanging in here with this delay. Regards from Jerusalem.

Thanks and Now What?

We did it! With your support, yesterday Jewish Prayers of Hope and Healing was officially funded. Fantastic. Kickstarter has already sent an automated thank you note. Now I'm sending thanks from my heart to yours. Thank you for believing in this book and believing in my writing.

The book will be slightly larger than I originally envisioned. The idea is to give the prayers a nicer look and feel on a more open looking page. At the suggestion of the designer, Mayapria, we’ve increased the format to 5.5” x 8.5.” The cover and interior files are now being prepared for pre-press production by LighteningSource, the printer. I will keep you posted on progress.

As I mentioned in an earlier update, Kickstarter and Amazon Payments are respectful of your privacy. They do not share your personal information. So, in order to send you books and to email the poster, I’ll need to collect those details. Not to worry. In a week or so I’ll send you a “survey” – that’s what Kickstarter calls it – to gather the information I need.

Thanks again. I'm thrilled to be part of your life, blessed to be on your spiritual bookshelf and, mostly, humbled to know that you will read and use these prayers.

Sending joy and hope from Jerusalem.
