I am very excited to share this trailer for the mini-documentary that is being created by Plywood Pictures specifically for my first retrospective monograph entitled Golden Sea. Plywood has created most of my short documentaries including "Live in New York with Susie Ibarra," and "The Four Holy Gospels." This latest documentary features location shots and interviews shot in Japan, New York and Princeton. Your contributions towards this project will support the production of this important documentary and the printing of the monograph Golden Sea.
This retrospective monograph and mini documentary will provide a look back on my career, following my journey with Nihonga, Contemporary Art, while always wrestling with the issues of art, faith and humanity. The monograph will include major works from my early days as a graduate student in Tokyo to my most recent work Golden Sea. It will be designed by Darilyn Carnes of Abrams Books, and published by Dillon Gallery Press to be used for future Makoto Fujimura retrospectives. The total production cost will be close to $48,000 and is mostly self-funded. I am seeking to raise a minimum of $10,000 to help pay for Plywood and the initial printing of the monograph.
The monograph will feature essays by Robert Kushner, Dan Siedell, Valerie Dillon, Kei Tatejima, and others. My second son, C.J., has composed several scores for this project and they will be used along side Susie Ibarra's generous contribution. Plywood Pictures documentaries will be included in the monograph as a DVD.
This is a unique way to support the production of this monograph and the documentary. For $55, you will be investing in the project ahead of the time, AND receive the retrospective monograph for half of the projected price of the book!
Update: For ANY pledge of ANY size, your name will be inscribed in the "Acknowledgement" section of the book. Please let others know of this unique opportunity to be part of an enduring journey.
