Can one man really make a difference? Are you ready to rebel against the laws that educated you?
Bushido the Way of Men is a point and click that combines gameplay elements from Japanese-role playing game, with realistic hand drawn style influenced from Japanese movies and comics.
Immerse yourself in Japanese culture, explore different cities such as Kyoto, Edo…You are confronted with the feudal life in the 17th century, you are a rōnin, an outcast, you have neither privileges nor social class. You must find the person responsible for destroying your clan and avenge it. You will evolve in a world where every action can affect your reputation.
Find a place in this society that rejects you and achieve your goal whatever it takes.
Each decision you take have a consequence, each battle you face may be the last one.
In the streets of Edo follow Oishi Matabei, a rōnin who is trying to survive…
Our inspiration for Bushido the Way of Men comes from Japanese movies such as Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Ran from Akira Kurosawa, The Sword of Doom from Kihachi Okamoto. Animated serie such as Samurai champloo inspired us regarding their animation, the real event described in the story of the 47 rōnins helped us to shape the scenario of Bushido.
We are also inspired by video games such as the series of Broken Sword for their beautiful 2d scenery, Shenmue for his dialogue system and scenario and the series of Gabriel Knight for his gameplay.
Since we need some help to boost our campaign, we decided to offering add-ons availlable for backers who wish to get extras in addition to their pledges. We have six additional add-ons available (those are available for all existing backers who have pledged at least 13 euros). The last add-on is a new reward created exclusively for this pack (If you are interested in creating a new pledge with this reward just let us know!). To purchase an add-on, just click manage pledge, and then increase your pledge by the amount of your add-on. After the end of the campaign, we will send you a survey to ask you what add-ons you would like. Thank you very much.
Oishi Matabei is the last survivor of the Chōsokabe clan, left for dead, he took refuge in a small village in Kyushu Island (Saikaido, Satsuma province) in southern Japan.
His desire is to join his daimyo (lord) in death but he wants to find his murderer first. It is a very difficult task: find a job to survive, get some money, then, interrogate, intimidate or bribe the right people to gather information on those responsible for the destruction of the clan, at last, remained anonymous.
Era of the game
His reign brought a development of culture as well as a period of peace. However, in order to control the caste of warriors, he enacted new laws.
Samurai were no longer allowed: to change of master, to marry out of their clan, or to have occupations outside the clan without the consent of their former master. As a result, the samurai who lost his lord or fief had no choice but to become a rōnin.
These drastic measures increased the number of rōnins. Having no status, they were excluded from the Japanese hierarchical feudal system. In fact, even if some chose more humble professions, becoming farmers or Buddhist priests, others turned to a mercenary career, bodyguard and even cutthroats.
If you are interested to deepen, you can also read this article about the Chōsokabe clan on indeidb.
The player controls a rōnin (samurai without master), he must find the people responsible for the destruction of his clan in order to avenge his master. To do so the player will have to investigate and get information from the NPC. However, this information is not free; it can be obtained by helping some people or/and by buying them.
The hero, during conversations with the NPC, should be careful not to draw attention to him at the risk of being discovered and eliminated by assassins.
We have also written a number of articles on indiedb giving you more details and ideas we have for the gameplay:
Multiple choice conversation system, seduce, intimidate, bride or threaten.

Learn more about the traditional Japanese food.
Bushido the Way of Men is maybe one of the few games who will bring you deeply in the Japanese culture and based on real events.
Oishi Matabei was a samurai belonging to the Chōsokabe clan. Despised by his peers, he tries hard to find a place in this society that rejects him. His desire for vengeance gives him the strength to continue living.
Past of the Hero
The following events relate the past of the Oishi family: Mototsugu Matabei, Oishi's father was a samurai and weapon master of Chōsokabe clan. He passed his mastery of the saber on to his son, making him a duelist unrivaled.
In 1586, Oishi accompanied his father during the Kyūshū campaign during the Sengoku period (1467-1603), under the orders of Toyotomi Hideyoshi (lord and regent of Japan). The battle of Hetsugigawa which took place in January 1587 was his first experience of war, but also the last of his father who died in an ambush against the Shimazu clan’s forces. Following the victory of the Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s forces and the Submission of Shimazu, Japan was unified; Oishi Matabei returned to Tosa, the stronghold of his clan where he succeeded to the post of his father.
School of Saber
Oishi studied sword handling at Koryū Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū, one of the oldest Japanese martial arts schools founded in 1447 by Lizasa Ieno, a former samurai.

He contacted Jean (an old friend met 15 years ago in art school in Paris nearby the Louvre museum) and proposed him to create their own company…Trimarkesia Studio.

Current Status: Bushido the Way of Men is situated at its pre-alpha stage of development and all the technical issue we met so far were solved. Most of the main mechanics of the game is already built. It includes the conversation and fight system, abilities of the main character, quest system. Our next step is the World map.
