I grew up on the expansive weirdness of role playing games in the 1980’s. This is probably the reason Mortal Arrow has a predilection for skittering arachnids, slimy amorphous terrors and mutated humanoids. For this Kickstarter project, we’d like to take a deep dive into the vast phylum of strange and terrifying fungal monstrosities. Pedro Navarro has proven to be a grand champion of sculpting miniatures that are equal parts alien, organic and downright creepy. He is the perfect fit for this project. The two of us have been collaborating over the past few years, and have found that we share a similar love of the stranger side of vicious baddies.
Central to this project is a corrupted commune of mushroom folk. Pedro and I thought it would be fun to offer a “before and after” miniature of each of these humanoid-like Myconids. "After what?" you ask. Well … after an unexpected and unwanted visit from none other than Ascogenea herself, otherwise known as the Demon Queen of Vile Fungus. Nothing like taking a commune of peace-loving cave hippies and turning them into havoc-loving butchers.
Of course, we’re not just satisfied with good and evil Myconids, when there are so many great and terrifying ideas that Pedro can explore such as fungus that: mimic other creatures, are rolling engines of destruction, are floating bombs of asphyxiation, are walking cauldrons of poison, or macerating man-eaters, or dimension-shifting eldritch entities … you get the idea. Each of these creatures have their own motives, ecology and stats for those interested to use them in role playing. Lin’Chi has adapted them to 5e rules as laid out here in Mortal Arrows' Scrolls of Infinite Souls.
So if you looking to add a little more menace to your mushrooms, take a look at what we have to offer.
SUMMARY OF CORE MINIATURES & STRETCH GOALS:
Meet the Myconid Heroes and their evil alter egos!
Pedro's been hard at work these last 24 months sculpting the Myconids and many other fungal terrors. These Myconid Hero minis range from about 38 mm up to about 48 mm in height, so are definitely a good size for 28 mm or heroic 32 mm based collections. The Corrupted Myconid minis run a bit bigger and range from 35 mm all the way to nearly 60 mm. You can visit Pedro Navarro's Facebook page or his his blog for more detailed photos. Here are the completed sculpts (all have been received by Mortal Arrow and mastered in the USA). These will all be cast in high quality metal.

- Corrupted Cluster: 1 random mini from Myconids of the Circle set for each $5,000 in funding up to $10,000 (2 Myconids maximum - chosen at random. No duplicates.)
- Cult of the Corrupted Spore: 1 random mini from Myconids of the Circle set for each $2,000 in funding up to $10,000 (5 Myconids maximum - chosen at random. No duplicates.)

ADD ON Miniatures:
This project includes many larger "monstrous" fungi miniatures that can be included at any Pledge Level as an Add On. Most of these are included as free Stretch Rewards for the highest pledge level (Warren of Vile Fungi). The quick summary below does NOT include the newest Add Ons -- these can be viewed at the top of the Add On list below.
Ascogenea - Demon Queen of Vile Fungi
Ascogenea is a new Uber-Add On. She does not qualify as a free Stretch Reward. She will be sculpted by Pedro after the Kickstarter funding period. Updates to follow.
Zygom Rot Guard - Strangleman of Ascogenea
Zygom Rot Guard is a new Add-On. It does qualify as a free Stretch Reward for Backers at the "Warren of Vile Fungi Level". It will be sculpted by Pedro after the Kickstarter funding period. Updates to follow.
Ascomoid - Juggernaut of the Warrens
Read more about Ascomoid ecology and game stats here. Below are the two varieties of sculpted Ascomoids included in this Add-On. See more detailed photos at Pedro's blog here. These minis will be cast in resin.
Man-eater Basidirond - Dread Nursemaids of Ascogenea
Read more about Man-eater Basidiriond ecology and game stats here. Three unique miniatures are included in this Add-On. Below are the illustrations and sculpted minis for the Baby Basidirond, Man-Eater Basidirond with an open maw, and a second Man-Eater Basidirond with a closed maw. See more detailed photos at Pedro's blog here for the Baby Basidirond and here for the big Man-Eater Basidironds. The Baby Basidirond will be cast in metal, and the Man-eaters will be cast in resin (with metal tentacles for easy posing).
Carnivorous Mushroom - Croc'o the Deep
Read the Carnivorous Mushroom ecology and game stats here. Below is the sculpted Carnivorous Mushroom included in this Add-On. See more detailed photos at Pedro's blog here. This mini will be cast in resin.

And if you decide you'd like only a few Myconids or rather multiples of one type, you can purchase them separately as Add-Ons. All Myconids will be cast in metal.
Risks and challenges
I’ve learned a few lessons from my first Kickstarter project (Tikki Trolls) that has led me to reformulate this project to make the project scope clear from the start.
Add-On Goals - because all of the sculpts are complete, I do not intend to unlock any new Add-On Goals during the funding phase of the Kickstarter campaign. The exception being if the project does particularly well (reaches over $5,000), I will ask Pedro to create a special "Queen" sculpt.
Stretch Rewards - free Stretch Rewards are important to keep the momentum continuing for the project. So I will include these as described above.
Surveys - As much as possible, I will use the built-in KS Survey instead of a Pledge Manager system.
Final Selections and Payments Details - This was the biggest issue I had last time. Many Backers lost contact with the Project and I had a very hard time getting final selections using emailed spreadsheets. I just backed a KS in which they provided each Backer with a "Kickstarter coupon" for the exact pledged amount. You could use this coupon on a special order section on their website to make selections and place an order. This way you can include Add-Ons, expand purchases and pay for shipping. For me it worked well. So I will also try this approach for the Warren of Vile Fungi KS as it seems really straight forward.
Shipping - Please be aware that shipping will be added when the "Kickstarter coupon" is used on the "Warren of Vile Fungi" order page. For example, the estimated shipping for the Cult of the Corrupted Spore reward level is $9 for USA, $17 for Canada and $29 for Europe. These are subject to change depending upon the amount ordered and the current USPS rates at the time of shipment. Small reward levels will have lower shipping costs.
Risks - All figures have been sculpted and masters are made. About 15 production molds will need to be made and then all the metal minis will need to be spin-cast. One production run of resin minis is already in stock and ready to ship. Our molding house (Valiant Enterprises) has confirmed that total production will take about 3 months. It is important to realize that additional Add-On miniatures that are unlocked as Stretch Goals will first need to be sculpted by Pedro and then mastered before they can be ready for production. This may add up to 3 months to the current estimated ship date for these particular miniatures.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
